      Ladies,

Did you bring your kid to hearing test? My son got appointment for hearing test. He need to sit still for one hour. I am wondering whether he will sit quietly for one hour. I dont want to choose another option to test while putting him to sleep. Which option do you choose for your kid's hearing test?

Yes. We didn't have any issues. There are toys to play there. Don't worry, they do hearing tests for kids everyday. They should know how to handle.

Yup I have the same worries as you. But my kid did well during the hearing test. Keep telling him that the doctors/nurses going to check his ears.

Your kid is now K1 or K2? Did you ask what is the problem with your kid? ASD or just slow development?

        Re: comprehension

My boy did a comprehension ex in sch. The passage was about a family at the beach, two went cycling, mother was reading a book etc. Then while cycling, they saw a lost dog. One of the question was, what could the title be for this comprehension. Option 1 is a day at the beach. Option 2 is how the Tan family adopted a dog.

My boy chose 2. Well, he isn’t totally wrong right? It could well have ended with the Tan family adopting the dog…

unfortunately mine couldnt sit still, and threw tantrums badly. we had no choice but to put her under medication. i could still remember dh and I looked at each other with such intense relief when the doctor announced that there was nothing wrong with her hearing ...

wow, your son very advanced leh ...

examples of action words are eating, drinking, walking, running etc. again there are commercial picture cards that you can use to teach.

once he masters that, then you can start to teach 3-word sentences, eg. girl eat cake, boy play ball, boy climb tree etc. therapists tell me nevermind about grammar at this stage, we can worry about that later. the strategy is to add on the building blocks slowly, eg. girl eat cake -> girl drink juice -> girl eat cake and drink juice -> girl eat cake and drink orange juice. 以此类推 ...

but start off with 3-word sentences first and build the foundation, especially if he has a good vocab to start with.

                    hope this helps.

I think option 1 is more appropriate, since dog only appear at the end. Similarly, if child wrote the above passage for a compo titled option 2, it would be considered off-topic. But it is ok for compo titled option 1. HTH.

Whatever you want your child to do, just teach him patiently and he will learn to do them eventually.

For many years, my son would self-stimulate by flapping his hands and tiptoe around the room. I didnt really believe when his psychologist said he will stop doing it one day. But she is right, he stopped.

So be rest assured that your child will learn and improve as he grows. Really!

To answer your earlier questions, my son gets along fine with all his classmates and has a few good friends. More importantly, he can function normally, even approaching strangers to make enquiries.
No special secret to raising him, just do as the therapists said and try to pre-empt what he needs to know and teach him in advance. Also give him more love, because he has to work so hard to learn so much 🙂
