Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools

My girl in P1 is offered a place in both schools, which to choose ? Thanks.
St Margaret has thick Anglican history and has a Secondary school.
St Margaret Sec is a strong value added school.
Marymount only primary school, but has a caring environment.
academic - both about the same.
for convenience into Sec 1, i'll choose St Margaret since got affliated Sec school. -

We think alike where primary schools are concerned...having affliated sec school. My daughter's school increased the cut off point to 220 (for affiliated pri) with immediate effect. I hope this won't be increased for the next few years or I will faint.
With PSLE getting tougher, an affiliated sec school makes more sense. At least there is a safety net. -
Hi can anyone advise what are the chances of entering Nanyang Pri via phrase 2b if staying within 1-2km? Need balloting and is it risky?
In your opinion, which will be a more ideal school to choose ie. NYPS- good school but without sec affiliation for boys or CHS- good school with secondary affiliation?

nowadays, many parents stressed and worried over the high standard of PSLE questions set. I see more and more concerned mothers (my friends) apply no paid leave from work, or quit job temporarily from as early as mid P4 or beginning P5, to supervise their child at home gear up for PSLE preparation. These parents are \"taking\" PSLE exam, together with the child. The P6 Maths paper getting a lot tougher. Is no longer testing just Maths concept alone - but also playing around with sentence structure English nouns / keywords, testing a child's English interpretion & understanding. The child must practise a lot of Maths to get familiar with the \"style\" of questions raised, before knowing which is the best most efficient method to apply & solve under short time frame (pressure) constraint exam condition - ie. should i solve via algebra method simultaneous equation, model method, or what ? Only if the child has gone through lots of practice, then can \"discern\".
parents now questioning schools - why do you have to set this type of high standard ?

With an affliated Sec school, the safety net helps somewhat to reduce stress mentally. Even if COP cut off to 220, it is still better to have a net to catch your child somewhere. If child perform exceedingly far beyond COP, child has the choice to go another school.
No net, great risk; becomes \"free fall\". Child needs to work doubly hard to meet entry at a much higher challenging COP, just to enter the same Sec school. It can be more than 10 points difference. Fight to earn an extra point .... is not easy. -

Try and stay within 1km of CHS as balloting is hot. CHS balloting can be worse than NYPS. The situation at NYPS seems OK if you are trying for Phase 2B.
PPle who put their kids in NYPS expect their kids to do well enuff to enter RI etc. If you think your kid may need the secondary affiliation, then take a school with an affiliated secondary school. CHS or not, that depends on your Phase and distance from home. You can also consider ACS or SJI. -

Need some advise here, my son was born on 2007 and now im thinking of which sch to place him in, im currently staying at yishun;
Jiemin pri - phase 2a as hb is ex-student
northland < 1km
Xinmin pri - phase 2a as im ex-student > 1km from my mum place
Hougang primary < 1km from my mum place
move house to other location, as hb and i have intention to change into a bigger house since we got 3 kids -
Since you intend to move, buy a place near your mom and choose Xinmin Pri (guaranteed a place at least). Good reviews and not very far from Hougang Pri.
It will be for the best as your mom can help you with afterschool care.
Northland is good but you may not be able to ballot in. Too stressful. -
