      Jennifer:

My boy said he found out from a classmate in class C3, more than 1/2 of the class failed HCL paper 2.

My son said 3/4 of P6 failed HCL paper2 :yikes: .... to 'justify' that he is just 1 of them

      Was bad handwriting also penalised?

Righto! At the end of last year, 90.5 was the top score and she's already really very good, not a PRC, a true blue Singapore-bred girl. My girl managed a high 80s.
Coming from you, if you say that gal is very good, then she must be nothing short of excellence. Btw, I also know someone else kid's CL is beri beri good. Have you seen PH P3 essay writing get almost full marks ornot? :yikes:

This one also true-blue Singapore-bred kid. Who huh?

My son flunked Chinese paper 2...managed to pass Math. Now waiting for results of science as well as CL & Eng compo and oral, whether these can pull up the overall grade. I am totally demoralized :gloomy:

              FQW,
We are not laying the red carpet for the Pei Hwa 'Parent-Torture-Club' but giving you advance notice what to expect. Reality is such that this school loves to set tough papers to give kids a rude awakening. Honestly, it's very demoralizing when they have put in so much effort.
I was feeling so down this morn. Although I kept telling myself this SA1 is not THE big picture, somehow much time and effort were put in.
The good thing about the seniors - in terms of children's academic level only, not age (compare age nobody can fight with php 🦆 ) sharing their experience in this PH well-trodden path is that by the time my turn comes, I would inevitably say, 'yup 3/4 failed SA1, so what? I expected that. It doesn't shock me at all. Failing is normal. I refuse to be bound by guilt (of not preparing my son well enough).\" 😆

Yes big picture. You know what I think about the big picture? It is this. PSLE doesn't even matter at all in the long run. I went for my fair share of job interviews; and nobody ever asks me what was my T-score. Muahaha.

So why am I studying with my son? Cos it just seems to be the right thing to do. Is it gonna matter in the long run? This, I'm not entirely convinced. 🤷

It's true that nobody cares about T score in the long run. I think we are doing all these so that our kids can get the best school, best teachers, best opportunities (eg get selected for TTLT, competitions etc). Doing well also means getting a good foundation, which should make their path easier in sec school and beyond...eventually the goal is for them to get a decent job in this competitive world.

Our parents did not study together with us when we were in school…then again, most were not that educated and didn’t see the need to.

We as parents see the urgent need to do so in view of the high standards now…the standard has become so high that if I were to sit for PSLE again, I will fail.

The BIG picture is getting a good job in this crazy world…before our kids reach that level, there is PSLE to face first. Studying together with our kids is 1) making sure he/she understands subjects 2) knowing their strengths & weaknesses 3) building bond.

Talking about difficult papers, today my son's student care gave him PH's P2 2011 CL SA1 to do and he came back with very low 80s. :yikes:

I checked the paper and he made minimal careless mistakes. Those questions were really tough, specially the OE compre section whereby they expect P2 kids to be able to paraphrase the passage in Chinese. :faint:

And I thought that my son is quite good in Chinese ..... but he couldn't grasp what the questions were asking so he tikam tikam and got zero for many questions. So tough.

Glad there's no SA1 for P2 otherwise I'll faint. Is PH standard really so high or not? 😓

For so reason, PH CL is extremely tough ...just get the sane comments fr chinese tutors too... now my boy kinda enjoy CL more since the standard is not so pressurizing for him now ...... :xedfingers:

First, a strong foundation & the right attitude towards learning means lesser reliance on tuition -> can save a lot of money and time.

More opportunites in sec sch lead to higher profiling that can reinforce internal motivation to again push oneself towards greater heights.

All in all, less stressful relationship between parents and child.

                      先苦后甜

Janet, why your son didn't do well you get demoralised? Machiam you're the one taking SA1 liddat. If my son doesn't do well, I'll make sure he gets demoralised ..... like slash his daily computer gaming time.

To be fair, ds just got back his CL term test marks and he did alright. This compared to his low score when he tried out PH SA1 (2011) tells me that the sch is being meriful to the P2s this year.
