I think your 5yo is old enuff to wear something normal looking like Tomato brand specs. Swiss flex and Miraflex are very malleable but dun look as good.

There was an article about a paper published in medical journal on page A4 of The Straits Times on May 5.

          - Insufficient time spent outdoor is the main contributor to myopia among children in East Asian cities including Singapore.
          - Most myopia is due to environment but not genetic.
          - Children who spend 2 to 3 hours outdoors a day are \"probably reasonably safe\" from getting myopia.
          - Reading or using computer is not detrimental to eye-sight as long as there are enough outdoor activities during the day.
          - Exposure to sun's rays is believed to stimulate production of chemical dopamine which stops the eyeball from growing elongated and distorting light that enters the eye.

With the Singapore education system and most parents reaching home after sunset, spending 2 to 3 hours outdoor during the day could be challenging. Would placing study tables at the window help? :?

The paediatric opthamalogist recommended to read at the natural light. So I believe putting the study table near the window and opening the windows could help. According to her, myopia will not increase in that way.

Hi sunflower2005, I think your girl also started wearing classes mid year in K1 right? My kids too, just started a month back. My younger one quite high at about 300 deg, but we have started them on the atropine eye drop treatment, once a week. Most eye specialists actually recommend daily use, but the one we are seeing is more conservative, only 1 drop every Friday which we find more acceptable compared to daily use( since no one knows for sure any long term side effects). Genetics aside, I think ultimately need to cut down on their time spent doing near activities like reading, doing work. Not easy for sure but at least need to try.... :rotflmao:
