You're scaring me... :faint:

:hugs:
.. ..then there are the faithfully tutored kiddos from 'branded' centres scoring band 3 and lower.. ...
So it all differs for different kids.. :?
Sorry not meant to rub salt into the wound, the smarter one will naturally know, if everything is taught n tested from textbook then how to differentiate the 'bestest' from the best .... Welcome to the reality of sg world class education.

:siam: πŸ¦†

Suz855, if you had seen / tried Onsponge Thinking Maths book, you will know how difficult are those questions about internal transfer . Even mummy need to think twice or can't solve it. No way for kids to attemp if they are not taught.
If the smarter one can solve these questions naturally, then he/she is gifted.
If the so called smarter one can solve these questions because gets extra coaching from tuition teacher, you think he/she still consider the real
'bestest' from the best ??

I do have the onsponge Maths books n I get my girl to practice the problem solving strategies ... Well, sad to say those tutored kids that know mean they do well n they will be rewarded in our education system.
like it or not they will still consider the 'bestest' of best..... Y2010 Roysth boy that top the psle was tutored at mindstretcher though he already very bright n last yr, the Rulang girl attends learning lab .... why do you think so many parents send their kids to premium tuition centre ... πŸ¦†
So you are sending a msg : we cannot depend on sch teacher anymore. SEND FOR TUITION, PAY TO BE SMART !

If parents still can teach, don’t really need to go for tuition. My DS only goes for Chinese Tuition and ECW and I just buy assessments books for him to practice at home (almost 5 to 6 books per subject). I think only when he reach P5, then I will send him for Math tuition, like her sister as the problem sum is getter harder.Have to save $$$.

I had no hidden message, just answering your qn whether tutor kids should be consider 'bestest' of best.

Anyway, you can still go to your child school teacher n voice ur concern, if the teacher is good n committed she will better prepare ur child n her class for ca2 n sa2, else then like other mums, fill in the gap ... Since u r resourceful ur child can still catch up n be the 'bestest' .... Enjoy

DD’s results are out. All Band 1 except for Chinese. And ironically, Chinese is the one subject that she has tuition. But I guess without it she would not even make Band 2 for Chinese. And as expected, marks lost due to carelessness for Math and for Science, marks gone as she answered base on logic rather then based on what is shown in the picture.

Am happy with her results. So per her request, we will be having beef Sukiyaki for dinner tomorrow.
