How did you guys know about all these medicine anyway?

Woods really that effective ? When I have phlegm stuck and refuses to budge, I take flumucil...yummy medicine like vitamin C tablet you dump into water and fizzles. Sorry off hand can't remember that word.
A family doctor told me that. For adults, it is 600mg, so it's only 2x a day. Has milder version for kids and it's orange flavor. My gal asks me for it but I told her NO, it's not a sweet but medicine :faint:

Lolmum, u can choose the non drowsy type,
I like Rubitussin DM, this is also non drowsy.
Cough Medicine/syrup is really subjective, sometimes, the same medicine works well for one may not work for another....(same for other medication too)

But usually those drowsy cough mixture seem to control cough better.....

Cough mixture contains an ingredient which will knock you out. I take procodin which is effective for dry and irritating cough...very controlled medicine now bcos some people are using it to get themselves 'high'. I hate the constipation effect though. If throat is very itchy in the morn, I take 5ml instead. Still a little oozy but better than coughing persistently.

U 're referring to ingred of codeine and promethazine ?
Ya, now codeine is a controlled med.
Even in JB, the pharmacist told me that they are not selling those med with codeine.

Sometimes prescribe some reddish cough medicine name like Activ-something… (can’t remember)
Dunno which one is better but the reddish one like prescribe when is light coughing.
Anyone any idea which one better?
I will throw away the not-so-good one.

Actifed expectorant will make you cough even more after taking it....suppose idea is to cough the phlegm. But it's very irritating.
I just went to see doc...for irritating phlegm which is so itchy it made me cough. He gave Procodin. It's for dry and irritating cough. Flumucil (own med) is to loosen phlegm.

This happened to me too! My son had a very bad fever last week, had to miss school...We visited out family doctor and he was very unwillingto prescribe my son antibiotics. I don't understand why....antibiotics can be used in general to cure minor illnesses. Without antibiotics, how can he ever get well

I not doctor hor. But I think part of the drowsiness may be due to the cold, and not just the medicine alone.

non drowsy medication for cough is not effective, but at the very least can help suppress dry and irritating problem.

for me, procodin issued by polyclinic doctors is very effective...it solves the problem of itchiness in the throat. side effect is :imconstipated:

Drowsy medicine is ok to make us sleep as we are supposed to rest more when unwell
