British Council - Discussion

hi,
A quick update on the trial lessons : I was impressed with the writer Duncan Watt who took the lower primary children through the trial class yesterday. He was the best ever English (composition and speech) teacher one could ever have. Too bad he does not teach there…I do hope that the teachers there share his passion and knack for teaching English… -
Hi Parents,
Anyone has any comments about sending their Primary School children to British Council?
Many thanks. -
Not really. Is there something specific you are looking at the BC?
-
Thanks, my boy needs to improve on his composition and comprehension. Any good centres focus on these two areas? Please advise.

Hi all,
Thinking of making use this coming June holidays to help my P2 son strengthen his English.
He reads extensively and is a good speller. But he is weak in grammer, sentence formation, expressions, comprehension and composition. Also have poor punctuations and mis-uses capital and small letters.
Will private tuition suits him better or intensive English enrichment programmes?
Saw British Council (101 Dalmations) & Lorna Whiston(English Alive, Creative Writing, Animal Magic) provides June holidays English programmes. Are they good?
Or are there any centres/ experienced private tutor that provide intensive lessons, eg. daily lessons for 2 weeks (2 to 3 hours each lesson, so about 10 lessons in total)?
Thanks in advance! -
This thread is rather quiet. My DS is with BC for 1/2 yr for K2 English. He enjoys the lessons very much because of the fun learning but I find the standard rather low. Definitely not what I expect of BC. I am thinking if I should continue with the P1 programme for next year. I appreciate if parents can share your experience. Does your child really benefit from BC?

Reading through the thread, it seems that we are only allowed to register child at beginning of term? Would it be possible to enrol in mid of term?
-
No they don’t. Called to check on this yesterday and gotta wait till next year Jan and registration to the public will commnence in Oct as priority is given to existing K1 students first.
For parents whose kids are there, do you think that BC is suitable for slow learners? Or it’s more beneficial for those kids yearning for a heads-up or advanced knowledge? -
I ever send my daughter to their holidays class which cost me $550 for a week.
I dont see any results. (I guess it was too short to judge)
The only concern I have is they didnt mark my daughter’s assisgnments, they will just share the correct answer to them at the end of the day. Hence, I couldnt gauage if my daughter had fully understood what was taught. -

Hmm...This info is good to know before other parents decide.
