Seriously, I always say 'Leng qi' (air con). What is 'kong tiao'? To me, it means 'adjusting the air'.
It means AIR CONDITIONER (空气 \"air\" 调节器 \"conditioner\").
You don't walk into a shop and say you want to buy \"cold air machine\" (冷气机) right? You say you want to buy an \"air conditioner\".
And, only in topical countries like Singapore the air conditioner produces cold air. In places like US etc.. the air conditioner can produce both cold air and warm air. Hence it is not just a cold air machine. -

my son's PRC tuition teacher always use the term: za men instead of wo men (we) so he always tease me by using the term and says he can speak 'mainland mandarin' already -
It depends whether the teachers are local or prc.
So now even 巴刹 is incorrect? So should we embrace Da di for hail a taxi instead of 搭德士 and bo luo mi for 黄梨 also? -
