if we get a good math assessment bk n work hard, is it poss to skip tuition and teach p4 math ourself? p5 then go tuition??

YES ......it is definitely possible to teach our children Primary sch Maths, not only at P4,
But all  the way to P6 (as for my kid)
if parents, themselves,  are willing to spend time to explore and study
the various methods engaged in maths problem sums.
There is no lack of maths assessment bks readily available to help parents
to master the skills so that we could in return coach our own kids.

As for my case, I taught my gal Algebra simultaneous equations at P5,
when i saw how complex those problems sums were set in her CA1 exam.
(thinking back, i shd be more KS to peep into P5/P6 exam papers before she went to P5.... Haha)

        Hi, cimmam,

If what you are teaching is about forming equation and moving these unknown variables from left to right, I think I already know. Then,I don't think I'll be joining your workshop. But really thanks for inviting and letting me know about this workshop.

        Thank you!

        Mychildren,
what cimman will cover is more than forming equation and moving unknown variables. 🙂
my husband said the workshop is useful, but maybe a bit too advance for an average P4 kid to learn now, although it is good that he as a parent knows the standard of the math Qs that will be coming up and how these could be tackled using cimman's approach.
i think cimman is suggesting we as P4 parents introduce formation of equation and moving of unknown variables as a prelude to algebra. 🆒

        hi Jedamum
thanks for chipping in and explaining. Yes, it is more than just forming equations and moving unknown variables. That is the basics that can be taught at the P4 level. There is no need to link algebra to complex problem solving at this point in time.

My workshop is targeted for P5 and P6 level. It will give you the techniques to solve advanced problems at that level. As I've mentioned, the key issue in using equations to solve problems is how to formulate the equations. The techniques that you'll be taught will address this issue. The mechanics of solving equations I will leave to the parents to teach their children and will not be covered in the workshop.

          Mychildren:
I, myself, also give up on guess and check when working on some of my son's questions. Too many steps and too many guesses. I used algebra and show it to my son and said this is method I'll be using but I don't think is acceptable by your teacher now.
For Guess N Check questions, it's better and much faster to use Assumption Method.
          Sch also teaches this method.

Yes, you can. As long as you know the concept well and you have time.

Yes, you can even up to p6. I will also seek help from the Maths teacher if I need clarification. I am pretty hands off most of the time hence this is more efficient and effective for me. Otherwise, there are a lot of reference books which are useful. I know many parents whose kids do not have Maths tuition and the kids are scoring above 90 and eventually A*.

my gal alwaz forget shes doing times n halfway she will add the numbers. eg 48x3, she wil do 8x3, but later 4+3 instead of 43. how to prevent tis?

                        for eg 23
17, when doing second row multiplicatn she forget the numbers written as carry forward numbers belong to first row multiplicatn so she can add the same no twice
