Comparing Chinese Enrichment (Primary/Preschool)

I’m shocked to read about the bad experiences with reputable enrichment centres!


I send my boy to Beijing Language Centre & I’ve never had any problems with replacement classes.

There was once my hb FORGOT to send my boy. He called them up immediately when he realised it (probably half an hour into the lesson), & they immediately arranged a make up session with my hb. Due to my boy’s other enrichment classes, we could not make it to the N1 Saturday class, so the school offered to let him go to the N2 class for the replacement class, but with the same teacher. At the end of the lesson, the teacher went through with my boy (1-to-1) on what he missed during his own N1 lesson. He got worksheets for both the N1 lesson he missed & the N2 lesson he joined.

Now we’ve decided to transfer him to a branch nearer to us since my maid knows how to take a bus there already & also due to their 2010 schedule changed, my boy can’t make it there on time. It is an effortless task. Just had to inform them when we are changing over & they’ll handle the rest.

And happen that once we change over, there’s a PH. The other branch we are changing to actually called me to inform me that there’s no lesson & arrange a make up lesson with them.

I’m very pleased with the way they arrange make up lessons for us so quickly. I’m also pleased to see the way the teacher remembers my boy & is able to show him personal attention although she has so many other students. Their class size is not as small as other enrichment centres, but the most important part is that my boy is starting to speak Mandarin!

From a boy who refuses to speak a word of Mandarin, he is at least willing to repeat after us in Mandarin!

Plus it’s cheap, easy on my pocket considering that he has other classes to attend. $170 per term.

My experience is only with Berries Bukit Batok and Woodlands. I have no complains about Bukit Batok and I highly recommend Woodlands Berries, their centre head is the nicest lady I have every met. I can make up lessons with no reasons given, and I receive vouchers for both my kids even though only one was sick.


I do believe that not all Berries are good. I advise parents to feedback to the headquarters.

I just signed up my girl at Berris Woodland. I also find the lady at the reception is nice and not pushy.
My girl immediately ask me to signed her up after the trial class. She even want to start immediately, but i prefer to have her start in the new term next year.
One thing is the term is 12 weeks where there will be no holiday for my girl.

But overall, I am quite pleased with the center on the trial class.
Hope will have positive outcome.

Didn't see her. The teacher teaches the class is Mdm Yu. She is also a nice teacher. Not sure who's the teacher who will be teaching my girl. The center told me that the the teacher is not fix yet. Hope she will get a teacher who can motivate her. BTW, my girl will be joining the P1 class next year.

Wow seem so many chinese enrichment centre having poor or lousy pattern yeah? Now manage to sign Nursery 2 with Molin & still considering P1 chinese enrichment.

Wonder should I sign up Yuquan Lang School lump sum annual package as can have quite a sum of cost savings as compare on a yearly term. :?

My hubby is keen also on the p1 chinese class but I was not sure if too much for my boy. am also considering Molin but have not gone down to take a look yet.

i'm not sure if it is for all branches, but for bukit batok branch, starting next year, there will be no make up classes for lessons that fall on public holidays. but cos about 5 of next yr's public holidays falls on friday, that branch have make up lesson arrange - maybe a few days, i am not sure. FYI.

That seems to be the case now. The rules and regulations state that there will be no make-up classes or refund of school fees if school closes due to contagious diseases or public holidays. The allowance for make up lessons is not an entitlement. If a make up lesson cannot be arranged, neither alternate form of teaching session nor refund will be provided.

Thus I asked if we could not arrange for a make up lesson during the same week of the original lesson which we have missed, would the teacher separately go through the key words with the child either before or after the next lesson (which is what Tien Hsia has been doing for the last 2 years with DD). The reply was no. The teacher would only \"mention\" those to the child during the next lesson. Now, I feel that that is kind of by the way only, i.e. if the teacher remembers. There are afterall 12 students in the class, it would take a lot of effort for the teacher to remember who didn't come the week before.

As for medical vouchers, I was told specifically that this is still good for this year (due to H1N1, etc.) so that parents would not send in a sick child, but whether this practice will continue next year, it is still unknown.

Is Tien Hsia really good? Heard merge with Morries Allan now standard drop a lot. Maybe I could be wrong. I'm now torn in between Yuquan & Molin.

Tien Hsia's N1 class has only 6 students (1 teacher). I called in yesterday to enquire cos there's a branch near my mum's place and I'm thinking of sending my boy there (convenient cos my maid can walk him over, we don't have to rush home to fetch him).

Berries is max 12 in a class, 1 teacher to 6 students.

I am not aware that Tien Hsia has merged with Morris Allen. And in what way has the standard dropped even if its management has merged with an English enrichment centre? From what I have read and observed, they do have certain tie-ups with MA and their centre locations are always close or next to MA, but this has been for ages already. I am concerned if there is general consensus that standards have dropped as I intend to keep DD there even when she goes to primary school.

Most likely would take up the Yuquan P1 Chinese Enrichment

I think the Chinese Indioms maybe can take a a later stage. Are you signing up the 《成语识字 Cool》where learning 200 idioms?
I heard there is another 800 Idioms which maybe take another 1.5 years to complete.
