we did self drive

snow everywhere, nice and beautiful

winter and summer each has its own beauty

Zurich - Lucern - Interlaken - Grindelwald - Jungfraujoch - Gruyere - Geneva - Thoiry - Chamonix - Como - Lugano ..... it is the small towns and villages in between that are really great

ski season starts after Dec 14

Oh great! Would you mind sharing your itinerary, can pm me? By the way, do they require snowchains or the cars are equipped with snowtires? Didyoudo ?Basel and Bern as well?

it is a swiss requirement, all cars are equipped with snow chain, but the challenge is to put it on and take it out

main roads are okay even with snowing because the snow plough works regularly but smaller roads will have problem without snow chain

the itin above was what we did except for Como and Lugano which were covered in different trip

if you are in Geneva, it is worth to pop over to France side, really nice, esp Annecy and Chamonix, just within an hour from the border

May I know how many nites do you stay at each city? Or do you have a base and travel out each day?

how many nites depend how leisurely you want to explore the surrounding areas

not possible to based in one place, not worth the driving, and in winter, day light hours are short

Luzern, Interlaken, Geneva and Chamonix are suitable \"bases\" in terms of distance so that you don't back track too much

you can drive one way from Zurich and return car at Geneva airport and fly Geneva - Zurich - S'pore on the return leg

Awww so we might still have to put on snow chain even with the snow tires :roll: ..having no experience with snow chain, we may have to rule out self drive We did self-drive in winter hokkaido, but didn't require snowchains.

snow chain is just to help get the car out from being stuck in snow

not meant to drive long distance, max speed using chain is around 20km/hr

when on highway, must take out the chain, and highway is ok without chain because they clear the snow all the time

hmmm…btw just to confirm Swiss is left hand drive, different side from us?
