Its ok:) I am also sourcing for a good math centre, my younger kid got the last two problem sums of the math paper all wrong. I am thinking of concept math, and X-factor but I heard x-factor is expensive. Concept math does not have vacancy for the slot I want. I have heard about perceptum but not sure how good they are. Have you considered mindstretcher?
Hi Laurenkids, sorry for my late reply...Laurenwkids:
Glad I could help in anyway, yes my kid struggled in section B too, this time SA1 i saw a slight improvement, I am not expecting miracles within such a short time but the fact that she is much clearer on her concepts in 2 months give me some 'an xin' feeling.
Where is your child at for Math? I am looking for good math centre..my kids did not do too well, they have been with a pte tutor for a while.
My DS also did not do well in the recent SA1 Math exam (P4) :gloomy: .. He scored only 7/20 in Section C (1 qn correct-4m, 2 qns wrong-0m, 1 qn-1m, 1qn-2m)
!!! I asked DS why couldn't he solve most of the problem sums, DS said the teacher did not teach them how to do so! Then I asked why his classmates could solve most of the problem sums, DS said they learned the methods from their tutors!
I have been holding back my decision to sign up tuition classes for my DS2, coz I did not need to do so for my DS1 (who is in Sec-1 this year), so I thot I could do the same or DS2, but guess I have been wrong all this while :slapshead: ! Actually, I am also trying to source for a good Math tutor for DS2.. I am contemplating OnSponge Math, Perceptum Math or Concept Math. Do you have any centres in mind, and wish to share your experiences here? -
Hi Laurenwkids
Can I check how many kids are there in a class at Mastery?
Do they pitch the difficulty of the worksheets higher than that of the school’s?
Do they split their time between worksheets and experiments?
So sorry to hv so many questions, am sourcing one for my DS… Thanks!:) -
hi ilovechubby,
I am not too sure about the maximum per class in my kid’s class there are ten, I see in some classes more than that.
I find the difficulty of the worksheets like the level of some schools papers (the more challenging ones)
There are some experiments but more time is devoted to worksheets but I find that ok because they need time to drill the concepts and also how to answer for section B. All that takes time. Some centres just go through rather quickly and the kids do not catch but I find at Mastery, they take the time to explain so the kid is very clear on the concepts.
Don’t worry, if you need more help, I would be glad to answer:) -
Hi Laurenwkids!
Thanks for your reply!
I know there are also some others around that area eg Perceptum, Smartlab, Science Buddies (thomson) so trying to gather feedback before checking them out...:) -
Just to share with parents here that I have withdraw my girl from Mindstretcher and enrol her with Serena Greenhouse. She will start her lesson in July.
Hopefully, I can see good progress…
Will keep parents updated after CA2 … -
Hi Laurenwkids,
Understand that your DS is in Mastery Learning Center for Science.
Can comment and give me your opinion about the materials and the teachers?
My DS is currently in MindStretcher but recently has a change of teacher and this new teacher doesn’t teach and just rush through the worksheets in class. DS has been complaining so am looking for a new center.
Am considering Mastery Bishan, Perceptum or Science edventure…can anyone give me some advices.
Many thanks. -
Hi Dreammom,
I am not sure about Perceptum or Science edventure but for Mastery, their worksheets are quite tough but the teacher will go through in detail and explain clearly to the kids how to use key words to answer and her explanation of concepts are very clear. I feel for science, it is important that the teacher is very clear.
