Methink SPP n Lina lost PP; not dat AYS won.
I sort of agree with what you said. I feel that Mr Chiam actually had poor succession planning and this served as a good reminder to WP as well. I guess it's really not easy to find good calibre people who are willing to serve in opposition party. Eg. People like CSM is probably a rare find. I think Mr Chee would be good if he is not an extremist.
But also heard that PP lost it because of some new flats/ developments in that area?
But like other forumners, I think it would be very interesting to hear feedback from PP residents one year down the road after they have finally gone back to PAP. Wonder why no one talks about it this time round. -

Maybe it's me. Maybe I'm just quite simple-minded. I am contented that I have trains that work IN GENERAL and at the prices I pay, I usually reach my destinations with few problems. I take it that the crowds are nothing new or choose to go places when it's off-peak.
I don't need to see my MP around the estate frequently. I don't even need or want him to knock on my door to pay me a house-visit. I'd rather he spend time solving problems or with his family. I'm just glad he gets things done.
I also know quite a number of able-bodied Singaporeans who refuse to find jobs because the perfect one hasn't arrived yet (high pay, good environment, lovely colleagues, personal satisfaction, etc). And I also know a number of aunties who choose not to work because they want to be at home with their families. So I also agree- where ARE all the Singaporeans who are supposed to take on these jobs?
I believe my kids will be fine in the future as long as I teach them how to be independent and look for opportunities. Specialisation in the most unglam of fields (like plumbing) can actually bring home quite a bit of bacon. I am thankful that there is a stable environment which encourages investors to set up shop here so that there is the possibility of jobs, rather than unemployment.
I can easily pick out loads of things wrong with Singapore and the government. To me, it is a constant work-in-progress. I am willing to give it time to change and be part of that change in a positive way.
And, personally, IF I were a HG voter, I would be thinking about whether or not the person I choose is someone I want in parliament. So, yup, Singaporeans all over are not so different from the HG voters. It's just that we made our decisions last year while you guys are doing it again.
Just my two cents' worth. I hope I won't have to duck for cover.
There are other cities where their trains are packed, there are other countries whereby umemployment is more than 5% or 8%, there are places where the people are happy just to have clean water, good public hospital within reach, any job so they could feed their family and a small roof over their head, with or without an MP ready to help them with all these problems.............
And I couldn't agree more that while we can easily pick out loads of things that are wrong with the government, it is equally not easy to have policies that looks after the general progress of the nation and at the same time, makes everyone happy and satisfied.
We are all entitled to our opinions and some of us have different views and I respect that. All in all, I've personally enjoyed and have learnt much from a few good posts in this thread.
Please don't :torchme:

That's great. I don't mean this sarcastically. I really think it was a nice and helpful remark. I don't see anything wrong with what you did.
look chen, if u ask me why this why that, i oso dunno why..Chenonceau:
So.... don't test secondary stuff at PSLE and in P5 and P6. Also... why don't schools switch their chick lit Science textbooks for 'O' level texts? Then parents dun have to buy 2 or 3 books?
there is whole spectrum of parents and kids out there.
do they all think PSLE is difficult?
do they all want to read O level texts?
all i'm trying to do is to offer a possible solution to a motivated parent who is concerned NOW.
But I did not appreciate that you \"sian\" me for doing something else which I thought equally helpful - trying to ensure that parents don't NEED to take the piecemeal approach you suggested. I don't see what is wrong with what I am doing either... to warrant posts from you that drip with sarcasm. -
