          Dear Intermezzo,

I think it is a poor excuse to not go back to the drawing board and assess the current situation just because any new move will still be met with complaints or more kiasuism.

We all acknowledge that it is unlikely that any human being can ever be a perfect being, but I don't think we can accept this as an excuse to not strive toward perfection, or at the very least, to strive to be a better person.
          Dear oxyleo,

I understand your point. You are trying to work towards the Greater Good. i think that's great.

Of course it is good to give feedback to MOE and to give constructive criticism. But surely we must also acknowledge that some of our feedback and opinions might not represent that of the whole nation, or even the majority. And we also don't know what kind of constraints the MOE is working under.

So, personally, i'd just give whatever feedback if i have any, and get on with my life. I wouldn't harp on whether MOE sees the need to change or when is it going to change.

it's already so difficult to change the perspective and mindset of one person. How much more difficult for a whole ministry?

that's why i think it's easier for individual persons to ask themselves, what can they do to improve the situation for themselves at least, and get the best they can out of the system.

in other words, it's something like what you said - we should all strive to be a better person.

You seem to have a good suggestion for parents to try Popular Bookstore. I'm sure everyone agrees that until there is an end in sight to the madness, this has become a necessary stop-gap measure. What will become of kids of parents who are illiterate, or who are not so academically inclined? Who will choose those books for them? It is no easy feat selecting assessment books from Popular because of the sheer variety. One does require a pretty good level of understanding about the curriculum each year to make a good selection.
Ask a literate teacher to recommend some. Problem solved. πŸ˜ƒ

I am illiterate only lah... I can speak, just not at very high registers. I can still help my son with his Chinese compre as long as he reads the text out to me a few times and then reads the questions to me. I can help him to analyze deeper but he must keep on re-reading parts to me.

you son works in Rediffusion ? δΈ½ηš„ε‘Όε£°?

              :slapshead: I'm lost.[/quote]

He's being silly. But it's a welcome silly.

Since it's difficult, don't bother? Yeah... I might just do that.
