Why is it important to know which school the top student come from ?

That school may produce one top student in donkey years. It is like striking TOTO. May be some parents with fantastic genes decided they just want to put their child in the nearest school πŸ˜‰

I feel that the most important piece of information, is the school that produces the highest % of students who scored all As. Is this information available ?

Hi KSP, Who is that girl? quite interested to know!

        KSP:
        Thanks Chief.

Why don't you make your prediction here too? Maybe you have some insider news (just joking!!!). Or you want do it at 9.01pm 25 Nov?
        KSP:

My prediction is Raffles Girls' Primary School.

        The reasons are

        1) they have very dedicated teachers there.
        2) the last time they produced the top student was 2006 and they have missed the trophy for 2 years (2007, 2008), this year they have a new P and may be tasked to get back the trophy.
        3) based on the past statistics, the PSLE top students are mostly girls and being a GEP girl school will definitely stand a higher chance of producing one.
        4) read from other forums that there is a P6 girl from RGPS who is the top of all GEP schools.
        5) last but the most important point is my dd is studying there, hope having a top student in her school will inspire her to study hard.

          Absolutely AGREE :celebrate:

Should rank school producing the best results EXCLUDING the GEP classes. This will truly demonstrate the academic standard of the school.

Wow... I am surprised to see Bukit Panjang Pri School being one of the options lei....

I will vote for BPPS then !
Reason very simple..... bcos my 2 boys are there ! And if they produce a top scorer.... I will put my dd there in 2011 too !!

            Go ! Go ! BPPS ! Go ! Go !

Ye ye , i will vote for Bukit Panjang primary school because I was from Bukit Panjang Govt High, hehe.

There is no question that it is better to look at the aggregates to rank schools than focus on the individual top scorers. Unfortunately, such aggregates are left to schools to decide if they wish to make the figures public. In many cases, schools prefer not to release the info. So we parents are left to look for other means to rank the schools.

It is true that top scholars can come from any school, but it is also equally true that only the really good academic schools are able to produce top students consistently. This is a really blunt tool, but we don't really have a better source of data.

                Hi All,

Just want to share my Joy with all Kiasu comrades.. I have just received our son's NYPS P1 report card with an invitation card to attend the prize giving ceremony this Fri as one of the top 5 kids in his class
Note in NYPS, top 5 children are given prizes with no ranking for the rest in class.
                congrats!

Congrats! This is great for morale boosting.
There is a NYPS equivalent school which does not recognise top kid in the class when most schools recognise top 3 in class and now I hear NYPS, top 5 in class!! Times like this parents gotta do the damage control by conducting own prize ceremony.

I predict Bukit Timah Primary School because it is the most inconspicuous and low-profile school in Bukit Timah belt but actually well-attended by many brilliant kids, looking at GEP statistics.

I predict Raffles Girls Primary School because

                        1) it has the greatest number of KSP postings so far (27 pages!) - top of all the schools listed in this forum

                        2) issues of concern range from bus drivers/transport, canteen food, teachers, streaming, CCAs, GEP....

So, with active and positive parenting also comes with positive and excellent results! All the way, KSP!
