read newspapers, don’t have to be those boring articles, start with those you like! slowly build up with those hongkong/china productions dramas. it really helps!

For compre, you can look at the questions first, then start reading the passage and highlight the areas you think the answers may lie. Then read it again.

To enjoy reading Chinese books, buy novels on the Chinese dramas you like eg. My Fair Princess 环珠格格 by Qiong Yao. 步步惊心 should have the novel version as well.
Yes, we just bought 步步惊心 novel from Popular with 14.50 after 15% discount! 😄

Can also read it online but we prefer to get it since we like the show so much!

If you are still looking, I know an experienced tutor. She teaches Pre-school to Secondary school students. She has been teaching for about 21 years. 13 years in mainland china and 8 in Singapore. She is patient and loves children. After my children was taught by her, they were able to attain A1 for their express chinese O paper and A stars for their PSLE chinese paper. As of what I know, many of her other students have done well for their chinese under her. She also has experience in teaching at tuition centres in Singapore If you are interested, please pm me.

Regarding the tutor for Secondary school, how can I get the contact? My son is in Sec 2 going to Sec 3, his Chinese is poor. Had tuition but not much improvement.

I am also horrified by my DS’s Chinese, when asking what had he learnt in class? he said the teacher just read through the text book once, then let them do exercise. I feel it totally insufficient for learning a language!
