yes, it seems that once they have money in their pockets, they start to dream about home. The sad thing is that when she is back, she probably will yearn to come out to work.

Maybe you can counsel her and let her know how much agency fees are these days. if she has made up her mind, no point to keep her longer.

My maid (myan, unmarried) actually told me she wants to leave end of the year when her contract expires. I’ve managed to convince her to stay until her passport expires (another 9 more months only). want to put off having to find a maid for as long as I can. she told me she didn’t want to go overseas to work anymore. I couldn’t tell her about agency fees now so reasons I gave her was that making passport is expensive, so better not waste. and although she’s been sending money faithfully home, a bit more won’t hurt.

Hi hquek, if your maid’s contract(& permit) expires before her passport, can she continue to work in Spore without formally renewing her contract and permit? Or she has to renew for another 2 yrs, but her passport will expire in 9 mths, right? Then how?

Just wondering how employers handle such ‘tricky’ situation…

If I am not wrong, the work permit will be renewed up to a month before the passport expires. So by then no need to renew and send her back. But if you want her to continue with you then, you will receive a letter just before the expiry of the work permit to have it extended, provided the passport is renewed.

Hiaweh is right, I can only extend her wp until about a month before her passport expire. Have to renew her passport if she want to continue and after that to renew wp.

But I don’t think she want to stay. Miss home too much and she has been scrimping money so her family has now received money for farm labour and machinery.

              Andaiz:
Is it true that once after their loans have been paid up, the maids start acting up?

This morning, my maid told my mum (coz I work) that she needs to go home to look after her kids. Her sister (who is the main caregiver) had a fall-out with her mum and is now living in the \"city\" instead of the province. Her mum is not old but sickly, and doesn't bother about her kids so the kids are now very skinny.

Maid's husband is a good-for-nothing. Only gave money in Dec when he had seasonal job. So far, have been living in the \"city\", and have been sighted with various women entering Hotel-81-type places....

She wants to go home to take care of her kids. We have got exciting family additions in Q3, 2012 so its stinky timing 🤷 . Should I allow her to go back for good? I know she needs the money- not sure if she's aware of the implication of returning home... 😓
              Congratulations on ur new additions!
I dun think maids wanna go back becos their loans r paid up. It is more likely that ur maid knows there will be additions n she doesn't want the added responsibilty.
I had a transfer maid after my ex-maid left. The new maid did not know that I was preg when I saw her n agent also didn't tell her. It was only when she was with me for a few days that she realised that I was preggy. Then, she started to act up.
It was after when i spoke wif the agent that the agent told me that the maid had already called him n told him that she didn't know that i was preggy. Agent then told me that the maid is probably behaving badly in the hope that i wld change her. I changed her.
My advise to u is to sound her out. If u think she is a good worker, then by all means try to persuade her. If not, I wld suggest u change b4 the arrival of ur additions, cos there will be too much / too overwhelming 4 the new maid. It is also better 4 u to train n let the maid get orientated with ur household first. And also if u change b4 next Jan, u do not hv to offer them off day in the contract cos the new law will only kick in in Jan next year.
              HTH.

Andaiz, haven’t you seen around for quite awhile. Its good to see old forum members back in the domestic thread. Congrats on your new addition.

its getting harder to find a good maid. Try to keep her if you can especially one who has been with you for awhile and knows your house rules well. However maids who are married will want to go back. If you are unable to change her mind at least get in a replacement and let your maid train her. Less taxing for you.

Hi. I am looking for English course for my maid, actually she is the one asking for it. Preferably FOC classes 😂

                  Anyone has recommendation?

                  Thanks in advance!

MOM just passed a new law that with immediate effect, domestic maids are not allowed to clean the outside windows, except for those on ground floor and only on 2 conditions: the maid must be supervised by the employer while cleaning windows, and when the window grills are locked.

But how to open the windows and clean the outside glass if the grills are locked? :scratchhead:

grills are locked but still need keys to open to hang the clothes. am sure the employers do not hold the keys themselves so they must be kept by maid.

Obviously MOM is not very effective holding safety courses for maids, after the maids hv gone tru the orientation, we see more maids falling… I dont think they give proper lectures and hv not instilled into their brains the importance of safety. Think they should nt cast the blame on employers but themselves. I wonder how they teach the maids on safety cos its crazy that 9 hv fallen if they hv taught the maids proper safety procedures, I think they need to check on their officers to put greater emphasis on window cleaning and hanging clothes.
