      Dear MBS Parents,

I do not have any kids studying in MBS currently but my husband and I are very interested to enrol our son (born in 2008) in this school as my husband has a few friends who graduated from this school and he finds that they have very good character and personality. Hence, he is really impressed with the high standards of MBS.

I read from another thread that I could gather more information from the parents of MBS and hence, I would greatly appreciate if someone could help to address my concern.

As we are not staying within 2km of the school, the only way my son can qualify is under phase 2B. I called up SBF and was told that I need to have 2 referrals in order to apply to be member and go through the 'gui yi" ceremony. It’s totally fine with me since I’m a buddhist and some of my aunties and cousins already went though the "gui yi" ceremony. But I’m not sure if individual membership is acceptable. Another question is where can I find 2 referrals???

Hope some kind soul can help me. Many thanks!

Jfmum, I m not aware of the gui Yi ceremony n the 2 referrals. 4 years ago when I called SBF to enquire, they just told me that I need to get a director fr SBF to issue the recommendation letter. So it was for us to see if we know anyone there who could help. What I understand from reading earlier discussions is that they do not accept individual mbership now. Not sure if they hv changed the rule.

          Hi lostbunny

Thanks for your info. But before u can get the director to issue the recommendation letter, u need to be member 1st right? When i called and ask, they seem to be unwilling to answer my query. But they did ask if I want to apply for individual or institutional membership.

Mind sharing with me how u become member? Thanks for your help ya.

              kamsy,

is a great golden opportunity ! don’t miss it ! better quickly transfer into Maha Bodhi. Many times better than his current school.

Your son still young, not that he’s transfer in at P4 onwards. don’t worry, P1 not difficult, and is only mid year now. He will adapt and catch up. Give him your full support. Go for it!

Hi P1 workload is manageable. There is SA but it's like a all rounded test eg. recitation, group presentation, academic related tests but it's still manageable type. Not excessive. Homework is also manageable and in fact nothing much. Good to join early so that he can build the bond with his peers earlier.

Yes. I was an old girl. I've a P5, P4 and P1 in MBS. I like the fact that they have good CCA selection (eg. Band, Chinese orchestral, wushu, robotics, chinese dance, choir, badminton, etc...) which I am hoping that we can use to land my older kids into a decent sec school via dsa. Importantly, they enjoy school so far and are passionate about their CCA.

MBS is also the type of school that will actually give more resource to weaker students. Eg. smaller class size for weaker kids.

They have overseas immersion programmes starting from P4. Eg. my p4 is now in BJ and coming back today. My P5 did Nanjing last year. My P5 also did some NYGH camp that was organised by the school this june hols. The older kids are also doing some music talent development camp organised by MOE which avails to MBS students due to their performance in band CCA. There are alot of opportunities for exposure depending on area of interest.

Of course, nothing is perfect eg. there are years that we got numerous change of teachers due to pregnancy, etc.... or I felt they could do more for EL language. But overall, my kids are proud of being in MBS so that matters most.

                        kamsy,

m surprise that the sch only call you now to inform they have vacancy. I know there are a few classes with less than 29 students. My son's class is one of them.

P1 workload is definitely v manageable. My p1 only has homework like 2 or 3x a week. Most are done in class.
