Foundation Maths = NT?
-
Something is not very clear and the school do not want to make clear is Does taking Foundation Math = destined for NT (with small % going into NA)? Foundation subj has the same weightage as Normal subject in T-Score?
Also does Higher Chinese carries higher weightage than Chinese? -

HCL doesn't carry a higher weightage than CL. In fact, CL is used in the computation of the student's PSLE score, not HCL. You will only obtain a grade saying whether you scored Distinction, Pass etc for HCL.Something is not very clear and the school do not want to make clear is Does taking Foundation Math = destined for NT (with small % going into NA)? I'm under the impression that Foundation subject does not carry the same weightage as Normal subject in T-score. But I'm not sure how the calculation is done though.Something is not very clear and the school do not want to make clear is Does taking Foundation Math = destined for NT (with small % going into NA)? Think the combination of subjects taken - either a mix of Normal and Foundation subjects or all Foundation subjects - and how the student performs - will affect the overall T-score, and in turn affect whether the student goes to the NT or NA route. -
My student took Foundation Math last year. She went to NA.

For HCL, if you plan to join a SAP sec sch and you are amongst top x% of cohort, your PASS, MERIT or DISTINCTION can add 1, 2 or 3 points to your total T-score.

Foundation Maths means your child will either qualify to do NA or NT Maths in Secondary School. It is good to let your child take HCL in primary school if possible, so that they will (by default) be offered HCL in secondary school.
Just a pass in HCL in O’levels will give them 2 bonus points to enter JC.
So if you are looking in the long term, try to get your child to take standard subjects so that your child can qualify for express stream in secondary school. Also, take HCL if possible. This is why some parents hire home tutors for their children as early as in Primary 1.
Although primary class sizes have reduced over the years, some children just cannot learn effectively in a classroom setting (in school or tuition centers). They are not stupid, just easily distracted or cannot focus well. Some of them are late bloomers. However, our current education system "limit" the choices for such students very early. -

it depends on overall t-score before being offered HCL in sec school
