If you intend for her to enter SCGS secondary (your 2nd choice), you should try for SCGS Primary lah. It's not as difficult as St Nicks (coz lower population there) and less PVs.
from Jan 2013, two new IP Sec \"All girls\" schools added.
think St Nick Sec going to be more popular than SCGS, because:-

      i) cheaper school fees (< $30 per month) , compared to SCGS Sec (> $200 per month, if can't get bursary / scholarship funding financial help).
For 4 years (from Sec 1 to Sec 4) - the amount of savings can be quite substantial, if work out the $ difference between them.

ii) St Nick Sec tend to attract a large pool of Convent girls.
CHIJ family very big! comprise a few \"sisters\" schools - all sharing the same faith, belief / culture from assorted:-
CHIJ Toa Payoh, Katong, Kellock, OLGC, OLQP, OLN.

They all share the same common IJ spirit, even though they may come from different individual IJ primary school(s). For 10 years, they grow up together on a familiar IJ school spirit, from P1 to Sec 4. \"Once an IJ girl, always an IJ girl.\"

St Nick Sec offering \"IP track\" from 2013 onwards - thus tend to become a more common focused ground, gathering & uniting a lot of IJ primary school girls, esp. if they're able to meet the new Integrated Programme Cut off point direct express non-stop train to \"A\" level. Unlike in the past where each IJ primary has their own, individual affliated IJ Secondary school.

      iii) for O level track:-
St Nick appears to be stronger, producing better O level crop compared to SCGS. We often hear St Nick name reported & appearing on Straits Times newspapers, compared to SCGS, or Cedar Sec.

iv) St Nick Sec is a Catholic, mission school. SCGS not a mission school.
Some parents might prefer a mission based school - because introduce character values into the school.

      v) St Nick Sec is a SAP school. SCGS is not.
Some parents might prefer a SAP school, a more Chinese oriented culture environment.

            Hi kiasuparents_2010,

Kindly post your reply properly when you include the quotes of others. You seemed to have put your question within my original quote. Dun type within the [ ]. You should type either above or below it.

            kiasuparents_2010's quote:

My reply: Your question can only be answered by the schools or the Catholic archdiocese themselves. This is probably to spread out the kids according to location so that every child from the primary school has a good chance to enter a similar convent secondary school within the same area. It also provides a safety net to the kids after PSLE.

If you want CHIJ St Nicholas affiliation, you must then move within 1km of CHIJ St Nicholas in AMK and apply for the primary section. If you go to other convents, and still want to enter CHIJ St Nicholas secondary, good grades are required.

The Catholic archdiocese will tell you it is based on history and tradition so there is no need to push for any changes. They will also tell you it is MOE approved. So conclusion is, just accept it.

            Hope this helps.

              from 2013,

besides Nanyang Girls' High, CHIJ St Nick has become the Second SAP & \"All Girls\" Sec school, offering Integrated Programme.

last year NYGH COP was 262 ?
around Nov/Dec 2012, will be interesting to note ...

              i) how far off is St Nick new take off COP for her pioneering IP programme (girls born in dragon year 2000), from NYGH (ie. compare these two SAP schools) ?

ii) how far off is St Nick new take off COP for IP programme, from SCGS take off COP IP course ? (ie. compare these 2 schools, related now via the new JC to be built) ?

              COP = Cut off Point

As an ex student of IJ TP, my wish to register my daughter there came true. ‘once an IJ girl, always an IJ girl’. I would also like her to go on to IJ sec just next door.

It is not a SAP school, so gal fits in well. With a caring staff of teachers and motherly principal, we made the right choice.
Son is in a co-Ed SAP school, and I see him having a tough time adjusting. Thus, I decided not to register my younger one there.

St Nicks is SAP school, and it can be a struggle coping with high expectations. Although there is affiliation to sec, it is not easy to make it. My SIL’s daughter was in St Nicks, and the poor girl was so stressed she literally broke down several times in school.

The affiliation for IJ sec schools are diff for each IJ pri.

Hee. She’s not even eligible for registration yet. Must wait till 2014! Just that when registration comes, chance may be slim.

Why slim chance? You can make it better by doing many things:

                        1) Move house to within 1km
                        2) Join grassroots since no PV

I assume you and the kid are citizens lah… You still have time so don’t need to give up yet.
