Yes most special schools dont offer mainstream curriculum. Instead its more about life skills, vocational work. I just wonder what is the difference between ASD class and MID (mild intellectual disability - Low IQ) classes. I googled and the fees for ADS classes are at least 10xs higher than the MID.

Yes it's usually learning more about vocational skills rather than academic. Their education path is much simpler, not even ITE level. I stay at CCK.mayjoel:

doesn't mean Rainbow or Pathlight take in any child, even if parents want them to.

Both schools administer entry level assessment tests on the child first, to ascertain suitability.
After assessment(s), if they deem that the child is not suitable to be enrolled into their school, they also won't accept your child. Then you got to look somewhere else. example: after trying, there are kids who can't fit into Mainstream, nor into Pathlight, nor Rainbow.
different child has different IQ / EQ level, and unique behavioral pattern. They factor in all these criteria. -

Mainstream or pathlight. U are considered very lucky already since likely yours is high functioning.
Thanks for the video! My son isn't a genius, he just likes to memorize science facts. He makes me frustrated so often. Argh! -

have another friend whose daughter is mild autistic.
She's now in Upper primary, coping & studying well.
If her mum didn't tell me she's austistic, one would never suspect that she's one. The girl speaks fluently, speak / write good English.
When she saw me the other day, she said this, \"hi Auntie, Oh Yes! i remembered you. You came to my house a few times when i was a little girl.\" When i read some of her essays her mum show me, they were well written.
i asked her mother, \"Why you said she's autistic ? She looks perfectly all right to me!\" Her mom replied, \"Intellectually, she's fine. But emotionally, she's cold. The spectrum of autism is very wide.\"
in this unique case, both parents are doctors. -

my friend's case I told you about ... wasn't so lucky. She told me she cried buckets of tears when she realized her son like this. She said but still is her son. No matter what, she had to accept his condition, & give him the best education she & her husband could best afford.
my friend likes Rainbow (Yishun). The class size very small - max only 6 kids, so good attention given to the kids. And school fees reasonable, unlike Pathlight charging $500 per month, which my friend can't afford.
In Mainstream primary school(s), she said you can never find max 6 kids per class. Over there, the norm is 30 kids per P1 class. When reach P4, they re-org, become 40 kids per class.
