Do SOTA students get the opportunity to travel overseas on school trips? Not specific competition trips open to only 1 or 2 select students but general ones where a larger group of students get to go. For eg geography/history/lit trips to New Zealand, Asia, Europe etc?
From the feedback i got the students do go places for arts exposure and cip to US,Europe and Asia though unsure of academics exposure. Overseas exposure is mandatory. The graduating students even got invited to top scholarship talks alongside RI and HCI.
For the rare few who are asthetically and academically inclined, it pays to study in this new school vs-a vs RI/HCI if they are looking for top scholarship awards.
The above are my personal observation and opinion only. -

I know the school brings the students to the local museums and Esplanade Theatre for various exhibitions and performances for arts exposure. I haven't heard of any overseas trips for the general populace so wondering if any current parents of SOTA students can enlighten me. I'm not sure if overseas exposure is mandatory. It is certainly common among many secondary schools.jtoh:

The general populace in SOTA has to undergo overseas exposure in their arts form plus cip. These two areas are definately compulsory! This feedback is accurate as my best friendβs dd is studying there and i also knw few friends in the teaching faculty.
Also the overall exposure given in this school is unparallel thru master classes by top professionals and is all free. -

Starting from Yr3 all students will go on OIP (Overseas Learning Program) ie. exchange program for their various art form, countries differs each time.
At Yr4, they all will attend OSL (Overseas Service Learning) equivalent to CIP where they will do mission trip.
At Yr5, they will do GPS (Global Perspective Services) another CIP trip. This time, all planning and job executions are done by students themselves. (teachers are chaperons)
AGP (Artistically Gifted Program) students do get an additional trip on top of OIP, usually Summer Program. I must say they are a privilege lot as some students are out of the country 2/3x a year.
Who pays?? I'm sure all are interested to know. Usually is a
40/60 (sch) ratio for OIP/AGP (some are FOC) trips. For CIP, they will fund as per mainstream (If I'm not wrong) up to 1K. -

Thanks dasalo for the details.jtoh:

So the trips are more art form specific and CIP rather than academic?
How many AGP students are there a year? These are for the exceptionally talented students in their art forms right? -

Yes, in a way. Somehow, they learn their academic through Art. I can't explain but it's kinda related.
Thanks dasalo for the details.

There isn't a quota on AGP students. They are selected based on their exceptional talent coupled with at least a 75% score on academics studies. During my dd1's yr, there were only 4, all from Music and they form a class. After a year or 2 can't remember, they disbanded the idea and resume the normal ie. integrate in the normal class and given an extra hr or 2 for the AGP students on their art form. In other words, they work more, spend longer hours at school.
Now they have at least 2 students from each art form in the level yr and they are placed according to their subject combi classes. Btw, AGP starts from Yr3. So you get about at least 7-8? students for each level yr, maybe? With the exception of Yr6. -
Thanks dasalo.

Anyone whose kids are doing the TA this year? Share the experience please

My son just had his audition in theatre studies. It was a very positive experience with the head of the dept asking him many questions.
Just to check: is there any child or parent with child doing theater studies? Would love to know more as to whether the class size, the quality of teachers in theatre n overall experience in studying this area.
TIA
