            Hi Anyone can help?

The total mass of John and Daniel is 150kg. The total mass of Ramesh and Daniel is 142kg.
            (a) how much heavier is John than Ramesh?
            (b) if the total mass of the 3 boys is 224kg, how heavy is Daniel?

What I don’t understand is why 150-142=8 is the answer to show how much heavier is John than Ramesh??

              R+D=142--------------(2)

Daniel is of same weight in both equations. So the difference in weight should be due to the difference of weight between John and Ramesh. Hence

              J - R = 150 -142;

Hi Thein, thanks for your explanation. The box model abit too complicated for my girl. I will use the equation method that you show at first. Thanks.

                        Cher2101:

Hi can you please help me on these 2 questions.

1). Bao Ming wants to buy 6 shirts but he is short of $7. If he buys 5 shirts, he will have $11 left. How much money does Bao Ming have?

2). Ben had twice as many books as Eve. If Ben gave Eve 20 books, Ben will have 10 more books than Eve. How many books do they have altogether?

                        1) $11 + $7 = $18
                        $18 x 5 = $90
                        $90 + $11 = $101

                        2) they have 150 books altogether.

                        Hi,
Can question 1 be solved using multiple method?
If yes, pls advise how to do it?
                        Thank you in advance.
