Travel: Taiwan - Taipei

Hi all,


I would like to seek some advice on travelling to Taiwan.
This is will be our first family trip out and on a tight budget.
We would like to bring our son to Leofoo Resort and Qingjing Farm after reading up on the very valuable post by parents here.

Can somebody advise me how to go from Taiwan airport to Leofoo Resort direct and then from Leofoo Resort to Qingjing Farm? I don't need to stay in Taipei as we are on a tight budget. Just these 2 places for our son to enjoy.

If you saw the news yesterday, there was heavy rain resulting in flood and mud slide in Nantou and Taipei seems to be affected as well. Think North of Taiwan is affected by earthquake 2 days ago but may not be a serious one.

Bot sure if you want to re-consider your travel plans as Qing Jing is in Nantou County and it is in the mountainous area. You wouldn’t want to risk experiencing mudslide and visibility problems while travelling up the mountains.

Think Leofoo is in Hsinchu County and Qing Jing is in Nantou County (nearer to Taichung). Not sure if it is on the way to travel from Taipei-Hsinchu-Qing Jing…you need to check with those who travelled this route before. I did Taipei-Qing Jing (3N)-Taipei (4N), which includes the various towns as we drove along and around Taipei suburbs.

Qing Jing is around 3-4 hrs drive from Taipei. Some kids may not be able to take it. My kids have no issues as they are very exposed to this kind of driving trips.

My gals absolutely enjoyed Baby Boss (Taipei), Sky Lantern-ing in Shi Fen (Taipei suburb), Qing Jing Mountains. Not forgetting the fire work experience we all had at Kee Lung.

Hi all, I have just returned from Taiwan, managed to follow the itinerary as planned despite the showers and rain. Briefly, I was there for 8 days and visited Fengjia Night Market, Nantou Cing Jing, Miaoli Flying Cow Ranch, Hsin Chu Leofoo Village and Taipei. My entourage included 4 adults and 3 kids (3,7,8).

Just got back from Taipei.

Sun (10/6)
- around 5am felt some movement (slight earthquake). Then saw the news Yilan had 6++ earthquake.
- Visited XinBeitou, soak feet in the open river (fun and its free!)

Mon
- sunny day : Visited National Palace Museum (they have another Jewllery exhibit going on, showing empress Cixi and other noble jewels. (eye-opening)

Tue - whole day rain (zoo n maokong closed)[later saw e news a few plcs around e area got landslide]
- shopped whole day in the underground mall at main train station.(huge plc, they hv both old n new malls - clothes starts from NT100 n shoes NT200)(cheap n comfy)

Wed - sunny day, at nite felt slight tremble again (earthquake in Xinzhu)
- engaged Meeky Yang as our tour guide (good recommendation from other forumers) to Shifen, JiuFen, JinGuaShi, etc. Visit Jiufen in the evening, nice nite views and lightings along the stretch of stairs.

Thur - raining again
- return to Singapore

The weather now in Taipei is not longer preditable. One day can be raining the whole day but the next day can be Clear sky. Staying in Taipei is still ok, but heard that other plcs had flood and landslides.

need some help on Hualien :

1) Taipei->Hualien, which type of train, how many hours ride ?
2) Any recommendation of a good 名宿 in Hualien ? Prefer authentic local food and easy to get to local attrractions.

We took the Taroko Express train, only 2 hours 10 mins. There are several trains from TMS to Hualien, traveling time between 3-4 hours. Train fare is cheaper for regular trains.


We stayed @ Hualien Bay Minsu for 4D/3N. 10 mins drive from city. Minsu owner drove us out for dinner on the first night. When we are done, we gave him call and he picked us from city. 2nd day we visited Taroko Gorge and hired a driver. Driver brought us to NM for dinner before returning to minsu. 3rd day, went to Ocean Park. Paid minsu owner a nominal fee for transport to and fro. But when he came to pick us up, we wanted to go to Yanliao seafood so he drove us there and offered to return to pick us again when we are done. We invited him to join us for dinner so he doesn't need to make so many trips. He also picks up his guest to and fro Hualien train station.

Google for reviews in TA, several good reviews, that was why I booked this minsu.

Planning to visit Taipei in Dec and go Leo Foo Village and Windows on China. Just wondering if it's ok to buy the High Speed Rail Ticket on the day itself as the weather can be unpredictable in Dec.

Also, planning to stay at Flying Cow. Anyone can advise how to go about booking 2 nights stay at Flying Cow.

Hi, is end September still typhoon season in Taiwan? Safe to go to Taipei during that time?

DH only flies SQ. Last year, we bought our tickets when they had a promo, can't rem was it $588 or $688 but need to travel before sch hols.


This coming Nov, we bought normal ticket @ almost $900 per adult.
