spent 1/9 salary --> left 8/9 salary (remainder)
spent 5/8 of remainder on refrigerator
= 5/8 x 8/9 salary = 5/9 salary
left --> 8/9 - 5/9 = 3/9 salary
3/9 salary --> $420
5/9 salary --> $700
$700 spent on refrigerator
