Hi mummies/daddies with kids in KCPPS,

Can you advise how’s the school in terms of the following:
-Amt of homework - is there alot of homework in P1? Or is it well manageable?
-Discipline - Is the discipline good/strict? Do they tend to use the harsher approach or the soft approach like talking and reasoning with the student?
-Holistic - Is the school very academic focused, or is it more holistic?
-Stress level - Is it OK generally, or is it very stressful?
-ECA - what ECAs are they strong in?
-Are your kids generally happy with the school?

Anyone have any idea how KCPPS compares with Anderson Pri?

Btw, also understand that the school is moving to the holding site at AMK. Passed by there and it seems really small. In fact, I didn’t even used to know that’s a separate school. (thought the whole thing was AMK pri). Do you foresee any issues?

Apprec you could advise on the above, and anything else, so that I can have a better idea of the school.

        TIA!

KCPPS will be moving to a holding school 2013-2014.

For parents considering this school, if transport is a major issue for you and you need the school bus service, find out from the school what is the concrete bus arrangements available next year. This is because the bus arrangement that was proposed is totally unsatisfactory and unacceptable. The children’s safety is compromised. The staff’s parking needs is given more priority over safety issues.

We are still waiting to hear from the school regarding this matter.

Amt of homework - depends on which class you are in.
Discipline - mixed approach. different students respond to different forms of discipline.
academic focused or Holistic - again, it depends on which class your child is in. At P1, it is roughly the same across the cohort. the story is different from p4 onwards.
Stress level - ok, actually methinks it depends on the expectations of parent of their child.
ECA - strong in aesthetic, e.g. dance, band, choir
Are your kids generally happy with the school? - Most of the time yes.

After more than a decade being in kcpps, here are some observations and advice for those choosing schools for P1.

For parents who are comparing and choosing schools based on the PSLE results of the school, there is really no fair basis for comparison.

Most of these top schools who produce top psle students run the GEP programme. So is it any surprise they produce stellar PSLE results? i know of many children who come from top pri schools going to normal neighbourhood sec schools. So there is no guarantee going to a better-results pri school will churn out better results.

As far as i know, quite a handful of students from KCPPS make it to the 2nd round of GEP selection each year. This despite "no training" given to them, unlike some other schools which do "provide gep training" but this is a hush hush thing.

Also the background of students of each school is different. Generally, many students from branded schools come from affluent families who can afford high quality tuition / enrichment. This churns out exam smart students. I would say KCPPS has a broad mix of students from each end of the spectrum.

One major concern should be the distance factor. It is really hard on the kid to travel long distances to and fro school each day. I know of pri sch kids having to wake up at 5+ in the morning so that they can reach school at 6+ in order to avoid the jam that will form at 7. Or if they are in the PM session, they have to get on the bus around 11am and don’t get back home till after 730pm. They do get used to the travelling eventually, but the time and money plough into travelling can be better used in other ways.

Hope you have an enjoyable P1 registration experience.

I agree with what Zeemimi comments on KCPPS. In fact, there are students graduated from KCPPS went to St Nic, RI, Catholic too. The school may not produced top scholar in Singapore that obtained 280 and above for the PSLE but that does not necessary mean that the school did not produce good students.

As for the bus arrangement. I personally do not think that by getting the staffs give up the parking lots will help to solve the problem. School staffs also play a very important role in the school, I don’t think it is fair to them either. In the first place, why allocate a small holding school for KCPPS if the school premise cannot cater for that number of students? Hope the school will succeed in talking and working with the respective government agencies on the arrangement. School transport vendor should also help to find a better spot for students to alight. I think there is a side road with lower traffic near the school main entrance.

To conclude, my kids are happy in school most of the time and they like the teachers there though the teachers can be very strict to them. In terms of homework, sometimes my kids have lots of homeworks to do but so far they didn’t complain about it. Stress level, still manageable as my kids do not have many enrichment classes and we do not give them extra works to do. So not stressful for the kids and ourselves even if they have many homeworks to do at times and not forgetting about their cca activities.

                    Hi zeemimi & mum2gals,

Thanks for the detailed information. Glad to hear that ur children are happy there. 🙂

However, is there really an issue regarding the holding site at amk? Quite worried on the safety aspect as my gal will have to take school bus if she manages to ballot in.

By the way, since there is no open house for KCPPS this year, when do you think is the good time to take a look at the school compound? I intend to bring my gal there during the P2A period…is it appropriate?

I think during P2A and P2B period should be ok. 😄
