Funz:

      Different thinking I guess.

I do not see a need to make a kid sit and type for the sake of typing. It is something that they can pick up along the way. 🤷

And I have always felt that work given should match the average kid's capabilities. Something that the kids should be able to complete with minimal involvement from the parents. For chinese, it is not so much the drawing but to expect the kids to write a story on their own is pretty daunting for them. At P1 they can barely form a proper sentence much less write a story.
Out of curiosity, DD1 is mconline, is yours the same or different? I am amused by your thought though at typing. 😄 Different thinking indeed, coz I find typing an extra skill. The gist is balancing the interest?

DD1 as I mentioned, does it during her ICT class while yours seems to be lumped at one go which I would takes the joy from it hence you want to give constructive feedback to the school?

I have no complains about typing and DD1 enjoys it hence I hope it does not get taken away.

Thought to share the below 😄
\"Given the ubiquity of keyboards and the growing expectation that secondary school pupils and university students will type their essays and coursework, I think it (touch typing) is one the most useful skills a child can learn - at any age from seven upwards.\" John Clare (The Daily Telegraph)
My friend's 4+ year old will be learning ICT and touch typing (kiddy type) during their national curriculum (UK). She was surprised my girl was doing it as she always thought Singapore is so focused on subjects and not bothered about other items which is part of the lifestyle.

DD1 can form a sentence especially after the March and more exposed to a range of vocabulary. 😓 The ones which she unclear on, she just notes it in HYPY. Think they started to learn forming or re-arranging sentences in May? So far her homework from school doesnt require involvement from myself, I do get the occasional questions or meanings. think that is about it

Not MConline. Some BBC uk website.

Like I say diff thinking loh. To me, typing is something that they will pick up as they do their school work. No need to specifically hammer on the keyboards mindlessly. What I do think will be more meaningful is an exercise to teach them to create simple presentation on powerpoint or even do scrapbooking.

For Chinese so far the DS school work has not required him to write a story independantly. Re-arranging sentences, etc yes. They hardly even have show and tell unlike DD’s school. So I feel that it is kind of a big jump from what he has been doing in school to the holiday assignment given.

Anyways, like I say, diff in thinking and expectation.

        Ok enough about DS’s homework.

Holiday coming to an end liao. As usual, I am having mixed feelings. On the one hand relieved on the other hand sad that they will be busy with their school schedules again.

not sure what the site teaches :rotflmao: but if it is mindless then they might want to change the site.

though everything is touch screen nowadays 😓 but still need to know the basics of keyboard before powerpoint 😉 😉 😉

I see, then maybe giving feedback would be good I guess?
