Thanks 1amber 🙂

I have been looking forward to the day to go maidless, at least no one to anger me hehe, guess I prefer to do it myself.

Which model for fisher & pykel dryer? How long does it takes to dry your clothes & does the PUB bill cost alot?
1amber:
Hi all,

I m planning to go maidless soon. Can anyone recommend me the following:

1) Dryer- for a family of 5 persons' clothes
2) irobot- which model?
3) Dishwasher
4) recommended mop?

Congrats!

I use fisher & pykel dryer (6 years already) still going strong
iRobot - 780 (very happy with it)
no space for dishwasher (sob sob)
mop - i use the ordinary ones (actually the part time maid uses it)
sorry for late reply. I think the fisher & pykel has limited model. I bought the 5 kg one and my mum bought the larger version. I think the larger one is better of you want to wash king size duvet, comforter etc.

Clothes take 45min washing cycle (normal). my place windy so dries overnight or in a day (rainy day longer lah). Cotton home wear and towels all go into dryer. We bathe a few times a day so got many towels to wash.

PUB bill - monthly about $100+ (air con nightly, little cooking, fan on all day) so can't tell contribution by laundry.

Bought my scooba 385 last week. A bit noisier than the roomba 780 but still in love with iRobot! Floor so clean and no maid nonsense.

Next target - next year get another roomba and scooba and transfer the current 2 to the kitchen dept. Save some money first.

Someone said earlier irobot causes walls to have black stains. My roomba and scooba don’t. Could it be needing servicing to clean up the sides?

Hi 1amber,

Is scooba good? I just bought my irobot & my floor is very clean. I m considering to get the scooba too. But does the water leak?

Does anyone know if the laundry steam works as well as an iron? It looked easier to use compared to an iron.

I have been reading this thread countless times imagining life without maid. Buy the roomba, dryer, engage PT maid and etc. Feel inspired to go maidless. HOwever, I WORRY I can’t cope since I’m a FTWM. I have two kids who are 4 months and 2 years. They go to infant and childcare centers full time, and my maid stays at home alone during daytime doing household chores. I’m now struggling whether to transfer her since she can be rather free and bore at home all the time.

She has been working for me 6 months now. Basically she don’t have to take care of my two sons. Elder one is taken care by DH and younger one is taken care of by myself when we come back from work and on weekends. DH says it good to eat homecook food and does not want to help out much with housework but he is active to take care of son. I am still training my maid to cook food for the family. Every night I have to brief her how to cook for next day dinner and she helps to keep the house tidy.

Anyone has advise for me? Should I continue with her contract?

since you have a maid, you may want to consider letting her look after your older boy. Maybe you can leave your younger one in infant care if you don't trust her enough. Home cooked food is much much healthier than eating out. Even the oil used at home is better. Your maid can cook simple lunch for herself and your son. When he takes nap, she can cook dinner.
Can also save some money getting maid to look after one child, as she is so free the whole day. But have to lay ground rules. Safety is most important. Lock up windows grilles and keep the keys.

I am maidless now. :rahrah:

Sent her back to her hometown although she wanted the transfer.

Although I am struggling, we are enjoying it. No need to worry for so many nonsense things now.

Hope I can manage :xedfingers:

I have been maid-less since April.

The good things are
1. my mum no longer complains about the maid!
2. nobody calling from Philippines to ask maid for more money!
3. no more cutting corners like when she does the housework
4. no more damage to my furniture
5. more privacy 🙂

I have a 7 year old and a 2 year old. Mum helps to watch over 7 year old and prep her for school while 2 year old is in child care. Hubby and I will take turns to send him/pick him up from childcare. Mum will help to cook dinner and we will do the dishes, supervise on homework and prep the kids for bed. Laundry is done on Friday evening and ironing is done on Sunday mornings.

I will deploy the iclebo to clean sections of the house at a time. So at 10pm at night, it will help me to vacuum the floors of the living room n dining room. I will set it in the bedrooms on alternate evenings when we are having dinner. Come Saturday, I will make it vacuum the whole house before I start to mop. Reason I'm still using the wet mop n bucket is because I stocked up on floor detergent previously as my ex-maid tends to use a lot of it! So better not to waste it, lol.
