What I hate about the current Singapore
-
it is easier to be contended if you are rich enuff… everything just seems so nice if you could afford it…
usually, those who hate Singapore and complain a lot are peasants… who were hit hardest by inflation and foreign threat. -

no wonder someone said this country has more dogs than people
i think we hear more because of internet and citizen reporting, not that old time had less of such
Was he 'seen to be reprimanded' n then rewarded with a nice job in a GLC?
I beg to differ.
Old time such occurrences not with dis frequency n viciousness.
(not counting triad activities). -

Maybe. But those whom I encounter who complain a lot are those who already have their basic needs met but are seeking more. You would likely be contended if you are rich enuff.. everything just seems so nice if you could afford it..

Those are struggling to have their basic needs met too busy trying to meet those needs to have much energy to complain. Those whom I've had the pleasure to work with are usually pretty appreciative of the financial aides given. One even said this, he is lucky to be a poor in Singapore. If he had been in other countries, he may not even be alive now, his kids will not have a chance to go to school and will be some child labour somewhere. -
In the past, more teamwork. Riots, triads are the major misdemeanor. These days more individualistic, fights n quarrels between 2 individuals...

Seriously, technology just makes it easier but the society landscape has changed dramatically and rapidly, a little too fast for the society to respond well to it. If anything, we are weak in change management.
Unlike in Japan, the people move together and the success of the economy is a joint one with its people or at least the perception looks better. People will work hard for a company for their lifetime even if pay is consistent. Over here we are made to look inadequate even after putting in so much efforts and the so-called good economy is required to be supported by so many foreigners of which the qualification to select them look loosely done. It is all the perception given even if none of this is true. -

Singapore has now become a Playground for the Rich & Famous...Just saw stomp photo of naked man lying outside Somerset MRT yesterday.
Another case, different day.....
. Young woman in public spat with older woman, spewing vulgarities.
. Young man arguing n shoving elderly woman off a bus.
. Taxi drivers kena whacked/slashed for little or no apparent reasons.
. Young girls prostituting themselves or seeking sugar daddies to satisfy material hunger.
. Professional women trading themselves for biz contracts.
. Professional men abusing their position.
. Minister n AGC tripping over themselves in trying to defend wat shd hv been a clear cut minor traffic offence case if going by antecedents.
Don’t remember seeing/hearing so much of such happenings within a short span of time.
Haiz...dis country is going to d dogs.
A Place to let the Rich to flaunt their $$$$....
Deep in our heart we all know the motives of this Rich and Famous migarating to Singapore...Gong Li , Jet Li.....

No doubt this 2 Casinos brought in a lot of revenues ...million and million of dollars
But the Singapore Society has changed.....no longer the special little country I used to grow up.....
I guess Change is unavoidable.....
Since I cannot migrate , I just have to get use to this Changing Society....
Can't help but wonder if the 2 bodies found at MBS are related to gambling, and what statements are these people trying to make by killing themselves there. -

I think dis is closer to d truth.
d poorer 10 - 20% who cannot articulate (not saying all are) can gripe n r simply brush aside as just dat.
Those who r more educated n hv their basic needs well taken care of who r now feeling d pinch n r getting more vocal.
In ur opinion, wat’s d more dat these ppl r seeking if not a fair n equaitable society for all?ksi:
Can’t reconcile wat u said with d oft repeated loud refrain dat dis gahmen prides itself on planning at least 5, 10 years ahead.

So wat has gone wrong here?ksi:
D old tried n tested system of keeping d poorest 10 – 20% fed with a roof over their heads,

d middle class contented with their lot n d elites in their own world no longer works
with a growing disillusioned middle class joining d lower income group becoming disenchanted with d widening income disparity,
woes brought by huge influx of Fts (rightly or not),
higher cost of living not match by wage increases etc..
Dis gahmen really needs to effect positive changes, even if it hurts d MIW in d short term,
for d gud of d country, n perhaps redeem themselves in d longer term.
In politics, perception is a VERY BIG thing. -

one gambles at MBS, loses his pants there, is in a daze n feeling lost,
retires to d rm to expire or launch himself fr d top of MBS.
Very convenient, no need to go to Bedok Reservoir. -
