For P3, there are 3 best classes for my dd's level. The best class have different teachers for all subjects, while 2 of the 'normal' classes have form teacher teaching EMS. The 3 best classes are introduced to Onsponge while the rest are not. However, they sat for the same Maths paper for SA1 and more than half of the 'normal' classes failed. Did the school shortchanged these poor students who might not have a chance to try out / be exposed to those high order thinking problem sums? no? Is it the parents' fault for not sending their children to onsponge tuition since the school do not provide it in the first place. This is a valid example of school test beyond what they teach.
On school not returning compo papers/ disclose marks for oral & LC:
At least some of you still have banding, my dd's teacher just replied: we are not allowed to disclose the marks - period. I have to pester him and ask: do you think oral is the weakest component among all the UNKNOWN , if not was it compo? and after that fix them up like pizzles to identify her weak areas :slapshead: -

It’s very sad we would need GE to get things done…thought ministers have pledged to serve citizens. I am sure our newly minted Education minister or senior ones can look into matters on the ground level. Waiting for next GE is too late.
If Singaporean kids can enjoy priority in this coming P1 registration with immediate effect, why can’t parents get to know children’s results for compo even if we cannot see the paper. -
For EL compo, I kinda guessed the mark since I have results for some papers. But all I am requesting now is transparency. Must things go viral before right person/people be pressurized to work on it?
If marks are not revealed, don’t tell me school has some miracle to feed the kids to improve for next exam ie prelims ?
I do not like to harass…and I am not very good in doing so, not very pushy I guess. It’s a torture to be kept in the dark. -

Just wondering, do you know the components marks that make up English marks? If you know how much is Oral, Written paper, Listening Compre, is it not possible to compute the compo marks?BeContented:
Actually my DD also do not know her score. All I am told is below average & I dun know what is the average score even. However, after the whole PTM, I learnt from another mother she pushed hard & managed to find out her dd score.
Maybe I never try hard enough.
Sadly I could not figure out cos all I have is the written score for Paper 2 for both EL & CL. -

There are parents here who are very lucky to have good partnership with their children's school, have supportive and competent teachers /principals. Good for them! For those who do not, and are still going through the pain together with their children, shall find ways to help the precious ones. At the same time, parents who support systemic change to our education, please do write, post, feedback to MOE. And if these still fall on deaf ears, the next GE is definitely worth waiting for.
Let's help the precious ones out there.

It has been eye opening for me to read about the short comings experienced by many parents out there, with regard to the education system and experiences of the kids and parents.
However, making sweeping statements without substantiation is misleading, unhelpful, and malicious.
Every keyboard warrior can hide behind the anonymous computer screen and spew all kinds of false accusations against the MOE and the schools.
Who knows whether it is just another parrot jumping on the band-wagon to bash MOE and the schools …? -
My DS school only allows parents to look at exam papers during PTM. You can take as long as you want to view the papers as long as within the teacher's sight. Some parents commented that it could be the school was afraid that the exam papers fell into undesirable hands. Probably the school doesn't want other schools to know what sort of questions is set - afraid of plagiarism, perhaps?
I would normally take a quick look to get a feel of the questions set and see how DS did, hoping to detect any weakness or carelessness. As for compo, they did about 10 or so a year. Most of the time, I don't get to see them and when I do, I notice that the teacher's comments are few and limited. I have no issue with that cos as a tutor myself, I wouldn't want to correct a student's compo too much or it'll become mine. However, I would give suggestions on how to improve and push for more creativity. The command of a child's language usually determines the ability to write. However, DS3 did the unthinkable during his lower primary compo exams and not once but twice in a row the form teachers thought it important to inform me that he got zero for his SA2. :slapshead: I was :yikes: but knew the reason although the teacher didn't spell it out. DS3 prefered situation writing to picture cos he felt restricted by the pictures. However, he went overboard and let his imagination run wild. :faint: I had a hard time convincing him not to write out of point. I have confidence that language use was not his problem. Well happy to say that for his PSLE I believe that he did a very good job from what he told me. Compared to his peers, his story line was unique and that definitely had helped him to score points. This year, his essay for SA1 was among the few selected for publication by the school. :boogie: -

the problems is, most parents just read and parrot the info else where without verifying....that is the dangerous part
some misleading info may not even be defaming
