SINGAPORE - The Ministry of Education (MOE) announced today that it will be revising school fees from 2013 in government and government-aided schools for non-Singaporeans.

School fees will increase by $50-80 per month for students who are Permanent Residents (PR) and by $115-250 per month for international students (IS).

Primary PR students will be charged $90 up from $40, while IS (ASEAN) will be charged $350 up from $235. Other international students will be charged $500 up from $345.

School fees for students who are Singapore Citizens (SC) will remain unchanged. Primary school education is free for citizens.

Monthly fees for secondary PR students, IS (ASEAN) and IS will increase by $65 to $120, $125 to $450, and $180 to $650, respectively.

Fees for local students will remain at $5.

Meanwhile, pre-university PR students will be charged $160 up from $80, while IS (ASEAN) will be charged $700 up from $530. Other international students will be charged $1,000 up from $750.

School fees for local students will remain at $6.

Monthly standard miscellaneous fees will also increase for all students by $1 to $6.50 for primary school students, by $2.00 to $10.00 for secondary school students and by $2.50 to $13.50 for Pre-University school students.

Yes, poly is considered tertiary. But feel that their fees should be adjusted too. Just like bus fares. I may be wrong on this (pls correct me if i am), but, don't think poly/ITE students enjoy the subsidsed bus fares as their A level counterparts. Feel that provisions shd be made especially since they are all in the same age group and category of post-secondary education.

Just a lighter note on the difference I notice, I think the poly kids are treated more like young adults, not tied down by school uniforms and stricter rules in school whereas the A levels kids are managed more like kids, maybe that is why they are given bus fare privileges?

Wait. Was this really what ksp parents were clamouring for? How is it going to benefit Singaporean kids if their non-Sg classmates will now pay higher fees? Is there any promise that the higher fees collected will be used to bring in more teachers/teacher-training/extra coaching for exams etc.?
