Another dragon book: ‘The Reluctant Dragon’ by Kenneth Grahame.Short and sweet. He also wrote ‘The Wind in the Willows’. My 7-1/2-year-old enjoyed it very much.

Hi kiasu parents I'm new around here. Just got feedback from my kid's nursery teacher that my daughter doesn't really like paper worksheets and books, preferring the iPad and computer. This is because we've always used the iPad as a \"nanny\" when we're out so that she'll sit still or keep quiet. She's turning three this week and can't confidently recognize all the alphabets. My wife is studying at the moment and my work requires me to travel alot so I try my best to teach her whenever I can or to the limit my patience lets me. Shes attending nursery (full-day) and I'd like to

supplement it with a reading class for her. Does anyone know of such a centre to recommend in the Marine Parade area? Thanks in advance!

There’s a great book, "Always wear clean underwear!" written by Marc Gellman. It is a wonderful resource for parents to read with kids and to instill values in them. I used some stories from the book during the Orientation Week when I was teaching in my ex-school. When I first saw this book, the title caught my attention. It is written in a conversational, easy to understand and humourous manner. Even my upper primary kids loved the stories. An AWESOME read!

Thanks for that reply! Always great to hear from a teacher! My teacher friends have encouraged me to spend more time reading with my daughter. Not so much to coach her but to instil a love for reading, which is the primary source of knowledge. I’ll look out for that title! Interesting title though;)

Hi all, do you have any recommendation for good and interesting books for K2 girl?


Browsing through the previous thread, it seems most kids are able to handle chapter books by the age of 6-7. My girls is still reading pictures books. Is there any good interesting entry level chapter books which will is suitable to introduce to her? And where can I buy them?

Hi XEK3, You wanna try books by Robert McCloskey? His books are really nice and there are quite many words despite it being picture book. (available in the library also).


Or perhaps Paddington series? My K2 kid refuses to go near books with more words than pictures but he loves Paddington series (I just get them from the JP section in the library - this is for the very young kids).

My older boy got started on series reading when we did Winnie the pooh (the original by AA Milne). He got so hooked on the story that he picked up the book himself when I was too tired to read to him.

if you want to get started on series books, maybe you can also try My naughty little sister (cant’ recall the author’s name offhand). The 3 series I’ve named are all chapter stories - each chapter is 1 story so it’s easier to handle.

She is so much into Barbie and princess. She seems more interested in picking books with princess’s cover.

hi XEK3, mine are based on the likes/dislikes of 2 boys - the elder one tends to be more into grosser stuff (slime squad that type of series).


if your girl is into more dainty stuff, you may want to go for those magic pony series types of books. i see them all over the place in the JS section. Sorry, we’ve never read these and hence I can’t make any proper recommendation.

oh, you may want to look for this series of books by Lois Lowry…it’s called Gooney Bird Green (not sure if my spelling is off). About a little girl with her idiosyncracies and independent ways in class. very good and fun read and there is some introduction to english words and way of writing. Very fun read altogether.
