For what it's worth, pictures posted to the Kiasu Forums are not hosted by KiasuParents.com, but on PostImage. I think their servers are getting a bit overloaded these days. šŸ˜‰

              Hi Buds,

Have been reading your many useful and interesting suggestions to teach Maths at home.... Thanks alot!!

I happened to come across this forum thread where a bulk purchase has been organised for the above item to teach Maths... in your opinion, do you think it is worth the investment?

The Montessori Family Kit is good. However, the materials aren't sold according to the different stages of Math per se. And do bear in mind that the kits aren't actually sold in the normal size. The are mostly (if not all) only mini sized. If your child is really very small, you hafta take extra care in introducing those small items that come with them.

As the materials are also pre-selected in the package, do note that the sets come in with Sensorial materials as well..... not just Math. All that said though, if you do know how to work with the materials and can teach your children at home on your own, it would be a sound investment as the actual Montessori apparatus are expensive to buy.

My only feedback to the Math set is that, i just don't quite like how the number 9 curves in that manner. I prefer the straight kind for 9. And cos the sandpaper number material comes in a long line, it would be troublesome to repair that one number on its own.

This one more to logic games i suppose and not entirely a math thing apart from i suppose, patterning? Mincy has provided some free Mandalas for children in another thread, which i cannot remember which ones right now. How much is this I-Maths set? If not too costly, it can be worth the investment to train a child's logical thinking and develop some concentration/focus to activities which can indirectly add to and benefit a child's early math skills, ie. colours, size, shape, patterns... (etc) And as the materials seem to be quite concrete for hands-on activity, it can be quite interesting to get children to work on it. If they have original copymasters that accompany the templates, one can also use it for reinforcement exercises - get the children to colour in after the hands-on activity.

Another usual doubt is if the materials are too small. For older children who will not put things in mouths, it should be fine. But if your child is younger like say below 3yrs, do inquire with regards to the specifications of the materials/products that are available online prior to purchase. To prolong the lifespan of investments that one buys, do have proper canisters/containers/ziploc bags to sort the materials properly and work with one material at a time. If you can spare the effort and time, it would also be good to label the items individually, either by name or math stages/levels depending on the nature of material.

My girl had fun with this game... so sharing it here. šŸ˜‰

                        QUANTITATIVE REASONING MATH GAME

Good for learning to count, add and subtract independently
as this math game is self-correcting as it is not possible to
place a tile on a wrong square. There are about 15 cards
with plenty of arithmetic exercises. Provides hands-on
learning experience in learning early math concepts
like counting, addition, subtraction & multiplication.

This game is available at Kiddy Palace.
SGD $15.90 is the usual price, but they're selling it now @ SGD $10.90.
