Hello parents.
i’m a mathematics tutor myself, currently tutoring a secondary 3 e maths student.
I’m a JC graduate, currently awaiting the release of results.
I do understand the trouble your child is going through, as i’ve been through that phase. And i’ve understood the way to overcome it.
I’ve a year of experience in tutoring, and rates are definitely cheap.
Do contact me at 98365216 if you have any queries.

hi everyone, I am new here. My boy is in P5 this year, failed his CA1 and SA1 math. I am currently looking for some help. I sent him to one enrichment centre, only 6 students, and he came home telling me half of the time is spent waiting for the teacher because she will go round coaching the students individually. I like the centre as they group the problem sums according to the different strategy used, but my son is not absorbing as he came home forgetting how to do.What kind of help should I get? appreciate your contributions. thanks.

I feel that maths is all about practice.
If he has to spend a lot of time waiting, it may not be ideal. The next step could be to go for private tutoring (ie one to one) but this you have to be very careful as the tutor may not be a good teacher.
I’ll pm you the place my kid goes to (not that it’s a secret), you may like to explore if it’s suitable for your child. -
Just 2 cents’ worth. If you have time, maybe you can spend some time building up his fundamentals first. Work out what is it that he doesn’t understand or why he is unable to do the sums. Is it a lack of skills required to process the questions, or a lack of concentration, or simply a lack of understanding of the question. Encourage him to try to solve the problem through his own ways, even if it may be wrong or the method used may not be the usual way. From there, if he answers it wrongly, you find out what is wrong and correct this wrong ‘thinking process’. I find this helpful.

I think you need a one to one Math tutor for your boy. Pri 5 is a crucial year. If he does so badly now, how is he going to cope with PSLE next year?
-
Perhaps go back to Pri 3 and 4 books (use assessment books from EPH), check which are the concepts that cannot be understood.
Might be due to a low confidence level too that is hindering the understanding. -
My girl is not doing very well in Math and her grades are slipping. recommendations? tuition? Assessment books?

-
first identify the cause
if having trouble understanding the concept, then tuition
if having trouble applying the concept, then do more exercises -
First you need to know the issue. If it is due to careless mistakes, get her to practise more and check her work. If it is due to cannot understand the concept, get her a good tuition teacher. Has she been practising/doing her work regularly?
