2-3 hours! :!: I get hoarse and brain gets stuffed if I keep it up for more than 30min... :!:Hi apple,
I read from other forums. Some parents spend 2-3 hours reading and reading to their young kids daily. -
Hi charmaine: usually i will let her choose what she want me to read then she will be more willing to sit down to listen. sometimes the same book she will want me to read many times. I can memorise them already.
2-3 hrs! I am a FTWM. The most I can manage is abt 1 hr or so… usually abt 30 to 45 mins.
hquek : maybe they spread out the reading time throughout the whole day. tiring hor. sometimes i sing nursery rhymes until i nearly fell asleep -
Hquek,
Haaa…
We (my helper and I) read, play, read. They like books but my son doesn’t ready to read by himself. He does recognise some words with many repetition.
In short, we (my helper and I ) spend min 10 min to 90 min reading aloud to them. Some read while pointing the words, some we just read while they are playing.
When search through some bloggers and forums, you will be amazed lots of young kids can read so well.
There is this yahoo forum : teachyourbabytoread. This proud papa does that. Read and read tons of books, about 2-3 hours daily. His son same age as mine is independant reader. He does share his experience in another forum call brillkids. -

Hi,any mommy can advice me?My dd is only 14 months and i am trying very hard to read her a story book.
As your DD is only 14mths, try to find books that have short stories.
Their attention span is much shorter and they tend to wanna fidget a
lot which is normal for kiddies that age. You are definitely not alone
here.
At this age they may not be able to be entertained by
the usual/common fairy tales yet so books can be thematic like abt...
Things around the home... Baby toys... Colours... Vehicles... Family...
(etc). Or it cud be counting books with lift the flaps as well.
It preferably should have big and colourful illustrations. And also big
prints. There are even soft books (cushiony books), plastic books
( waterproof and can bring even for bath! ) touchy-feely
books and big books.chuaeil:
This is normal. You can start with lap reading. Put DD on your lap facingMyself not a book lover since young cos dont have that kind of habbit but i dont mind to start reading again for my dd but no matter how i read to her she will want to hold the book and keep turning the pages and aft that she will just put the book on the floor and do her things so i try to read to her during her sleep time when she is drinking her milk and that will keep her still. Is this Normal for a 14 month old girl? Pls advice what should i do. Thank you very much.
the book. Milk reading can be a few times a day, so don't have to limit
reading to only bed time.
If she turns the pages, it is ok. You may say one word that describes the
pictures DD looks at..... (the page that she flipped to); before she quickly
turns to the next page or pages. If she leaves you, leaves the book
somewhere or leaves the room, you may still consider to finish it aloud.
Though DD may not be physically there looking at the pages, she is
definitely listening.

Post mortem of MPH sale…not too bad. Children books either $3 per book (or 5 for $10), or $8 per book (or 5 for $30). Adult books generally $5 per pc (or 5 for $20).
I managed to find Robert Sabuda’s Chronicles of Narnia pop up book - and it was at $8! (sorry only managed to see 1 book)
Citbank cards get 10% off if you buy more than $100. -
hi hquek,
Thanks for ur MPH sales feedback. I am gg after work. Now ‘die die’ must go. -
Hi
There is another book sales coming up:
http://www.singapore-expo.com.sg/index.php?option=com_events&task=event_details&id=326&Itemid=38
They dun't hold it every year. Few year back when i went, bought a lot ladybooks at $1. -
yup, saw the penguin sale on expo website - but I can’t recall going there. Thanks for the tips.
Felt that mph sale quite alright - the books are on tables and quite alrightly arranged (not difficult to browse through). BUT…only 3 cashiers…it took us about half an hour to pay. -

thanks for your advice, she likes balls and airplane so i will try to read to her but she only likes to look at the balls only so she will turn to the page and said 'ball' and smile, thats all. I try to read to her even she walked away but sometime really find myself very silly. I find it so difficult to get her to read and i dont know is she like reading anot. I saw alot of you got amazing result but mine is like... so i dont know how to train her to love reading.
Cheers

Hi again. Oh? Your DD likes balls?
I've met up a very small almost 2yr old boy who came to our reading table at the library and pointed to us all the different balls in one of our books.
I flipped, then he pointed to a picture and said, \"Rugby ball.\"
I flipped again. Then he pointed to a picture and said, \"Basketball.\"
Then, he continued with, \"Baseball.\" And a few other balls in the book that i cannot recall now. But for a small boy.. Knowing the correct names of THAT many balls.... i find it quite impressive.
I suddenly remembered this boy after you shared your DD likes balls.
