May I ask, what about SDA members serving NS, carrying arms, saying the national pledge. Any issue with those? Also, is the Bible used the same as other Protestant churches.
It's just that the church promotes living a healthier lifestyle as far as possible.phtthp:
Thanks for clarification, phankao.
so there's no such thing as cannot eat pork, cannot eat chicken, cannot eat beef, etc. In short, can still eat.
Hope you don't mind me asking. Just curious. -
Angelight:
Somehow I wondered why din't they just organise a group photo shoot just outside the courts n do away with all the tussle. After all, their faces are easily found all over the internet
For eg, the church members who turned up in full force to support their pastor. Yes, they are not wrong to show utmost support for their beloved pastor, but why got into shouting match and physical tussle (as reported in papers) with the photojournalists and shouted at them \"why don't you get another job?!\" My gosh, they are just doing their job, why be so hard on them? -

City Harvest Church's Kong Hee maintains integrity
\"The past few days have been very challenging. Please know that there are always two sides to a story. I look forward to the day I can tell you my side of the story in court\"

Thanks Phankao for clarifying. I take it you are an SDA yourself? Whatever I learnt about SDA is from discussions and conversations with fellow Christians (not necessarily from the same church). I have so far only known only one SDA member in my circle, but I never discussed about her faith with her before. So forgive me if my view of the faith may not be the most accurate. I've just read the Wikipedia page regarding SDA, and now I understand better. It's rather unfortunate that the word 'cult' has been associated with SDA in Singapore by local Christians here (yes, quite a few of people I know hold this view). I will feedback about your comment to those people I know.
Who say cannot eat pork? It's just advised not to bc Pork is considered 2nd/3rd-class meat. eg. Fish or Beef is considered 1st-class meat since what is first in the food-chain is a vegetable. In fact, to be even healthier, humans should not be eating meat - if we are really to go into how our teeth/digestive system are designed. And these are advised by the church Bc SDAs believe that their bodies are \"Temples of God\" . So should live as healthy a lifestyle as possible, and that includes not only healthy diet but also exercise, temperance etc. These are all Basic Commonsence and what everyone else should follow - don't even need to be SDA to want to lead a healthy lifestyle in that way. Not all who live this way are SDAs even!!!Dreamaurora:
Seventh Day Adventists is also generally regarded as non Protestant in Singapore and not registered under NCCS as well. But this one is more debatable, they still use the same Bible just that they have very strict customs, e.g. cannot eat pork.
I will refrain from calling these churches 'cults' although they are regarded by some Christians as such. I think we all can practice tolerance towards those with different beliefs than us.
So, as SDAs, there really is never a \"CANNOT eat this and that\", or \"cannot do this or that\". Some have construed it wrongly and take it as a list of \"Dos & Don'ts\" which is an incorrect view. That, is taken way out of proportion. -

I'm afraid I'm not a practising SDA - too complicating when I married a Catholic!

I'm not sure if I can explain the NS bit properly, but it's because SDAs believe that violence is not the way, and the main issue thus \"arms\". I suppose in today's context this would be so debatable too. In any case, unlike some others, SDAs do not object to doing national duty. So they do go through BMT. Those with no specific training probably will end up in admin work. Those who have some technical training (eg - they are poly grads as opposed to have gone to JC), will end up doing something in their line of training - electronics, communications, engineering, etc?

Bible is the same as every other Christian Church. No special Bible.
Catholics in fact have a \"Catholic\" Bible that has a few extra books. -
heard some churches very strict & particular about choice of bible used.
they use one type of bible only - ie. King James version (KJV), not any other. eg: NIV (New International version). To them, they regard KJV to be the original authentic bible. They trust only KJV, not NIV, nor any other translated bible. -

Thanks for the clarification. Pai-seh to have seriously veered off topic here.

I used to prefer the KJV, but it was a personal preference bc I just loved the way it was phrased. But it really doesn't matter. Any version is fine.heard some churches very strict & particular about choice of bible used.

Happy Mama:
todate, how many people in US / SG got converted, as a result of her \"China Wine, Mr Bill\" production ? any way to find out ?My first time watching CHC's online broadcast church service today and I saw this lady mentioning in her testimonial about Sun Ho's China Wine MTV and how Sun has changed the lady's life and how grateful she is to Sun.
Here's the MTV. Just wondering how this MTV applies to the religion. :?
