How to save electricity?

Aiyo, not fair leh…everybody I know or hear about has lower PUB bills than mine. It’s so exasperating!
We hardly use the dryer. Only thing must be the air-con, computer, fridge and oven. I hardly use dryer. Should I off air-con main power? When I want to use air-con then I turn on main power.
I also try to collect rain water but seriously if it’s a pail, require at least 10 showers before I can fill up the pail. So I give up on that idea. -
FQW, I think nowadays the toilet design has evolved. Instant heater not that popular. People want their toilet to look as nice as the rest of the house so they will conceal the piping. Maybe we would be better off looking at other ways to cut costs. Like air-con and computer. Maybe use laptop? Instead of aircon use those fan that blow out cool air?

Behind each mth's bill, there's this chart comparing utility consumption between similar households. Yours is way above the average?
Mine is actually only bordering average; for gas it's actually way below since we seldom cook at home. -

I think $200+ is expensive. All my aircons are inverter. My bill hover around $360. 3 aircon (bedrm) about 8 hr at night, 1 aircon (study rm) about 18 hr. During hot day, bed rm will turn on aircon for a few hours in the day.Oh dear, I've 6 air-con units at home and none of them is inverter type. Those inverter types are so expensive. My utility bills come up to $200+ per mth - one air-con turned on 9 hrs a day + son doesn't shower but bathes. I actually clean the air-con filters myself. Quite simple, all I need is a ladder.
How does one hit bills reaching $500 or $800? :yikes: Won't Sing Power become suspicious?
Heater - i dont use huge tank. I have a small tank for each toilet, so they turn on for 5 min before using. As the tank is small, it heats up pretty fast. The other option is to have the instant one for each toilet, this was one of the option as it consume even lesser electricity, but hubby thinks it's ugly. So, we decided on small tank.
The $500 or $800. Possible!! Turn on aircon living room almost whole day. (24hr - 8hr we sleep), then bed time, turn on bdrm aircon. Big Plasma TV also almost whole day (FT housewife or in law nothing to do - watch TV whole day), huge fridge (2 doors type with ice maker), heater tank turn on 24 hr bcos they need for washer, kitchen and bath. I know of someone doing this - >$1K -
I saved more on utilities when I was working coz there's no one at home (less than $200).
Despite not doing much to save electricity (our 4 aircons are mostly turned on) and water (I wash half loads of clothes every day and I'm guilty of bathing with the water running :oops: ), we spend about $250 on average, way below the ave bill of similar households. So I don't understand how pple can chalk up bills above $500...
One possibility is that I don't bake that much, don't iron clothes, and I use instant heaters. I also prefer to cook with cylinder gas.
My mom's house uses the storage heater and her bill is easily >$300 when it's only 2 people in the household using only 1 aircon unit at night. :scratchhead: -
This topic, my wifey is very good at it:
- Turn off power switches at the power outlet when the appliance is not in use.
- Record your own PUB usage by looking at meter and submit to PUB. Don't let them use estimated readings!
- Wifey say 1 TV for whole house. No TV in rooms :sick:
- Turn off modem when not in use. Most of us have a habit of learning internet modem turned on
- Don't stay at home too often! Go out for a swim or cycling! Bonds family ties!
- Boil your water and keep the hot water in thermo flash instead of using those electric water flask.
- Pay your PUB bills using POSB Everyday card, save 1%. -

Imami, do you mean the increase is $10? Should be ok. I know of people staying in 5 rm HDB paying more than $500 a month for electricity bill. I think it is alot. Another person told me he paid about $800!!!
I am very particular about utility bills. Not sure why too... I mean it's just $10 bucks more but I am like :frustrated: :stompfeet:
Despite having a lower than average utiliy bill than most singaporeans in the same housing category, we are still very mindful about using water and electricity. -

Can I check for those heater that are central heating, do the charges fall under Gas or electricity?

How about modem? It is on 24/7 in our house.. Does it consume alot of electricity? We were told by the service provider guy that it is okay to leave it on 24/7 but i wonder will the box get spoilt by the heat it generated? :roll:
