Busymom, is it you have 2 of everything? Like 2 fridge, 2 maid's, etc. That could bring up your bills. My friend has 9 people staying in the house and their bill about $600+ monthly.

eh... 2 TVs, 2 maids and 2 fridge (although technically 1 is a freezer).

Another culprit, I think, is that my maids love to use the vacuum to do everything... instead of wiping with cloth (e.g. furniture). :spank:

BTW, no side business one hor. But we are a family of 6 + 1 now. We don't use dryer, but quite a lot of washing (not sure if maids are loading the washing machine full or not though).

Wait till you hear about our grocery bills... that's why recently have to take action and personally see what are the groceries that are bought from NTUC. :nunchuk:
        Hi busymom,

+1 now :scratchhead: You just had a new bb???

        Yah $700 does sound :yikes:

We are family of 8 and currently around $350 (excluding gas) and it includes :
        * Daily twice a day cooking
        * 2 aircons (same compressor) at least 9 hours per night. Hotter nights then + 1. (diff compressor)
        * Monthly visits by sils' families. So entire house aircon for 5 hours.
        * As my pils and maid are at home during daytime so that would mean tv, computer usage, etc... as well
        * Water tank heater - we usually turn on 15-20 mins before bathing. Switch off after using. BTW, my tenant \"burntout\" our rheem heater and we suspect they kept it on 24/7. They also kept the aircon on 24/7. Their bills is co. paid so they probably don't feel the pinch at all.

Just a thought although I won't do it.. how about putting some of those aromatherapy oil in the toilet. Can get rid of smell??

The problem is already solved once they flushed. Was away for 3 weeks and I recently observed that I don't smell that anymore. So I think it works :boogie:

Just realised our water heater used gas which explains why our gas usage is more than double national average. šŸ˜ž

If we switch off the main switch for the heater and turn on only in the early morning for morning showers before school and work, will it have adverse effect to the heater?

it's running on gas right you say..

Adverse effects as in the things that happen to electrical appliances?

Anyway, In SG, running on gas should be cheaper then running on electricity....

If you use gas.. it's Gas --Burn--> Heat water.

If you use electricity, it is Gas--Burn--Boil Water--Turn Generator--Produce electricity --Distribution Network (With power losses during transmission) --> Heat water.

In places like China with Hydroelectric dam and power station, electricity is cheap.

                  In SG, it is expensive..

                  Limlim,
So will it save costs for us if we turn off the heater main power daily and on only when we need to use? Will it spoil the heater faster or causes spikes or whatever you said earlier for other appliances?

Thanks for your advice. Just looking for ways to reduce my bill too but not be penny wise, pound foolish.

Don't count your eggs ... I mean sponges before they are wet hor.

                    It's only a 25% chance.

For your price, I think it's cheaper to bribe your helpers instead.

And we are only a family of 6... the +1 too young to count.

Not sure which compressor serves which aircon in our home, but typically now, when baby is in living room, we need to on 2 aircon units as the area is large. Previously, aircon will only be on in the afternoon when DD is home. Now mostly from morning till night.

Probably need to train my baby to sleep in his room. But he doesn't like to sleep in his cot 😢

BTW, our cooking is by gas cylinders... :faint:

just a suggestion - how about switching on a fan instead since just bb in the living room with your helper, i presume ? :?
