In your case if your aircon is inverter than turn on 3 definitely will save more than 2 . I remember the sales man told me for inverter u will start saving only when u turn on 3.

The only thing I believe what the salesman says about a product, is the price of the product that he is selling. But even then, sometimes they can get the price wrong.

Well, all our aircon units in the house are inverter... so turn on all 3 in the living room will save more electricity?? We have 1 compressor for one big unit and another compressor for the other 2 units.

Talking about saving water, I've this dehumidifier at home in one of the rooms. In a week I can collect cold water the size of one full pail which I'll then use to splash on the toilet floor.

So to save water [it's free, it's from the air], buy a lot of these dehumidifiers can liao.

In our case, we have humidifier in our rooms, not dehumidifier...

Actually we have 3 aircons in the living room, due to the L-shape design. DH said that even if we just on 2 units, it is equivalent to having 3 on... hence the high consumption of electricity. Makes sense?

So do we save any electricity by switching on 2 instead of 3, or no difference? :scratchhead:

Using 2 will use less electricity than 3. How much difference.. is difficult to say..

Normally, you turn on additional appliances (doing same function) only when you are worried that the main appliance might \"overwork\". If the main appliance is capable of the load, there is no need to use additional appliances.

That's why we usually turn on only 2 units (1 big and 1 small).

\"Overworking\" an appliance means the appliance will have a shorter life span, not so much about higher or lower electricity bill, right?

Oh my goodness, my utility bill each month is $350. I have cracked my brain many times how to cut down on the bills but doesn't seem to work.

Do you guys turn off the power for TV and computer? Or just off the power at the equipment itself? I heard you need to remove the plug out from the socket to be effective.

u make me feel good about my PUB bills

Now you have made me feel even worse...

Our 6 aircons in our old place is dying.... 12 years old. Currently sourcing for aircon. Tenant is requesting for inverter type to save electricity cost. Boy, they are really expensive. But tenant is good in the sense that they are helping us to absorb the cost by agreeing to higher rent. In fact, they propose a 12% increase and then they propose to pay for all the aircon replacement. But we wanted to do it the other way round since there are tax benefits and they are staying for anothe 4 years. Still sourcing around. Their usage is 24/7.... :yikes:
Ours are about 6 years old and apparently, the chemical washing that we did from time to time had damaged certain parts of the aircons and they won't last that many more times of chemical washing... may need to have them changed by next year or so. :moneyflies:

What I meant was that since the compressor max at 21k BTU, if all turned on, each fan coil will max at 7k BTU, even if they r 9k BTU rated.

If 2 units are turned on, they can run at 9k each, 18k total. But since they have to cover a large space, the compressor may cut-off less often.

If running 3 units, total max at 21k, but maybe compressor cut-off more often due to even cooling. So even at 21k, the overall usage in terms of watts maybe lower due to more cut-off time.

Juz my guess...not trained in this area.
                šŸ˜‰

On Off On Off maybe worst than continuous on.

If I'm not wrong, the inverter type is good in that it will regulate the compressor output and adjust according. That means the compressor is always on, but running at maybe different speed depending on load.

This is much better than the traditional design where the compressor can only run at one speed, so, when the temperature is reached, it just Cuts OFF.. and when temperature rises, it turn ON again..

Inverter type is not only more efficient (on/off regularly consumes more power), but it is better for the durability of the compressor or air con as a whole..

So better to on all 3 or better to on 2? :?

One thing for sure, the 2 that we use more often, are supposedly more worn out. So in order to lengthen their life span, should perhaps on all 3 units to spread the work out a bit?

Then when you read Busymum's bill of $700+, you'll repeat what a certain minister said, 'I feel so rich when I see my bill every month.' Hahaha[/quote] :pokeeye: :heresmyfish:

Does that mean chemical washing is not good???

Yes, and we just found out. It will cause certain parts to rust

Overwork means.. using what it is not designed for.

for e.g. one small aircon meant for 1 room, you use it to cool the whole house. You will have to refer to the salesman(?) or the manual, to see the aircon is meant for how big area one. If it is for 1 small room and you install in 1 big room, than, using 2 aircon is less stressful on the aircon. If the aircon is meant for 1 big room and you got 2 aircon in a room, it is not necessary to on 2.

no one can tell what aircon you're using and what is the spec, so, only you can answer that question whether it is better to on 2 or 3.

And using 2 will always use more electricity than using only 1, regardless or big or small aircon.

Put it this way, your family go on a trip, 2 adults. If you drive 1 car, it will definitely use less petrol than driving 2 cars.. even thou total only 2 person travel to the same distance.
