      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedophilia

      Causes and biological associations
Although what causes pedophilia is not yet known, beginning in 2002, researchers began reporting a series of findings linking pedophilia with brain structure and function: Pedophilic (and hebephilic) men have lower IQs,[75][76][77] poorer scores on memory tests,[76] greater rates of non-right-handedness,[75][76][78][79] greater rates of school grade failure over and above the IQ differences,[80] lesser physical height,[81] greater probability of having suffered childhood head injuries resulting in unconsciousness,[63][82] and several differences in MRI-detected brain structures.[83][84][85] They report that their findings suggest that there are one or more neurological characteristics present at birth that cause or increase the likelihood of being pedophilic. Evidence of familial transmittability \"suggests, but does not prove that genetic factors are responsible\" for the development of pedophilia.[86]

Another study, using structural MRI, shows that male pedophiles have a lower volume of white matter than a control group.[83]

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has shown that child molesters diagnosed with pedophilia have reduced activation of the hypothalamus as compared with non-pedophilic persons when viewing sexually arousing pictures of adults.[87] A 2008 functional neuroimaging study notes that central processing of sexual stimuli in heterosexual \"paedophile forensic inpatients\" may be altered by a disturbance in the prefrontal networks, which \"may be associated with stimulus-controlled behaviours, such as sexual compulsive behaviours.\" The findings may also suggest \"a dysfunction at the cognitive stage of sexual arousal processing.\"[88]

Blanchard, Cantor, and Robichaud (2006) reviewed the research that attempted to identify hormonal aspects of pedophiles.[62] They concluded that there is some evidence that pedophilic men have less testosterone than controls, but that the research is of poor quality and that it is difficult to draw any firm conclusion from it.

A study analyzing the sexual fantasies of 200 heterosexual men by using the Wilson Sex Fantasy Questionnaire exam determined that males with a pronounced degree of paraphilic interest (including pedophilia) had a greater number of older brothers, a high 2D:4D digit ratio (which would indicate excessive prenatal estrogen exposure), and an elevated probability of being left-handed, suggesting that disturbed hemispheric brain lateralization may play a role in deviant attractions.[89]

      Treatment
Although pedophilia has yet no cure, various treatments are available that are aimed at reducing or preventing the expression of pedophilic behavior, reducing the prevalence of child sexual abuse.[21][90] Treatment of pedophilia often requires collaboration between law enforcement and health care professionals.[7][21] A number of proposed treatment techniques for pedophilia have been developed, though the success rate of these therapies has been very low.[91]

For sure, not happy with reducing expression of pedophilic behaviour. totally zero tolerance to this. The treatment should work on prevention.
Sigh.. anyway to restrict the pedophilis to entering into the education section. (formal and informal settings to safe guard our vulneable minor...

          friendship:
The problem lies with the panel of interviewers.

These panel of interviewers have no sense of far-sighted. Even approved application gay and lesbian to enter into MOE career. How can these people be a good mentor to students?

This is the second case right? the first case was Pei Chun ex-principal.

Why is the interviewers at fault? :?

Why can't gay and lesbian be teachers? To me as long as they are good teachers, know to keep their hands off my kids, why not? A normal person could be the devil in disguise..

All these dirty stuff,I am sure, are done secretly...so how to tell if one is a sex addict, a gay, a lesbian, a devil worshiper, a hardcore alcoholic , a child molester etc..

Yes, he is a goner. I really really hope he doesn't get married and have children....
I read dis post twice to make sure I read it correctly d first time.
I couldn't believe wat I just read. :faint:
            Is pedophilia a hereditary disease?
Did he ask to be born with dis condition (if it is a genetic thing)?
Come on, lets show some compassion to his family esp d parents who hv already suffered greatly.
Dis is a guy who needs all d help he can get, not condemnation of d sort I see here.
one doesn't wish dat type of curse on one's worst enemy, if one has any humanity or compassion left in him.

yah i agree.... some can act really well. They are good \"talker\" \"speaker\", etc.

Have you come across people who talk about everything as if they are expert / professional but when ask \"have you done it yourself before\".... they go....\"er.....\"
Eg. Someone just work in a hospital but talk as if they are a doctor

The guy is obviously a sex addict.

I actually felt sorry for his parents. They probably thought they have a bright son whose future is secured with a scholarship. However they ended up having to sell off their HDB to pay off his scholarship breakage and.... he is doing it again. He needs to see a doctor. But on the other hand, his future also look bleaked and he is still young...
A severe case here. I wonder if it's a mental problem.

I think what AC_Power meant is that if he has kids, he may molest or rape his young daughters, if he has any.

Agree! Hwa Chong Instution has a duty to do something about it if they are aware of his shortcomings esp if he went on to become a teacher. I am sure that they keep records of the students that receive scholarships. Also what about his testimonial??? Someone has not been doing his or her job!
ZaoBao does mention that he was given professional counselling from professionals at HCI. They thought he has turned over a new leaf. Moreover, PSC didn't asked for the disciplinary record from the school.

it's very sad for his parents. To have an intelligent son on scholarship is a proud thing. But he had to have a sick mind, get suspended and sent back. Parents had to sell off flat to repay $175K to MOE.
It's not the end now...he had sex with underage girl. Sure to go to jail.

The psychiatrist who did an assessment on him said that he should be kept away from all underaged females. Aren't you relieved that he was arrested in England and all this came to light before he graduated and returned to Singapore to teach our girls in school? OMG!

In that case, should this be a standard process that ALL teachers-to-be should have an assessment of this sort to rule out any wrong candidates to groom the young? It should be part of the health screening process during job application before a person is certified fit to work for a company. I think this is a serious and urgent matter for MOE to consider.
