Hi, just to share that the following book that I bought when DD was P5 (2010) is finally attracted her attention!


She found it in the Book Shelf and just finished reading and she likes it and requests me to get in some more novels.

At the last part of the story, 艾芳 become confident and her suggestion (petition letter to the principal) was supported by her class and her classmates have changed the opinion toward her and think she can become their class monitor.

I am wondering, for English language, there is a Dolch list of basic and sight words which the younger kids are encouraged to be exposed to.


How about for chinese language? Is there a list like that too? If there is, where can I find them?

Between 淘气包马小跳 & 笑猫, which is more difficult? I’ve only seen 笑猫.

Also once a kid is done with these 2 series, any other interesting series to recommend [preferably by different authors]?

Highly recommended the following books by 李光福. The books are quite new and are all available in the National Library. They are chapter books, with han yu pin yin - suitable for end p1 and P2 students. Each book has a simple but interesting story line with good values to impart to the young readers. Young readers can easily identify with the plots as it is written in the modern context.

What are about 君伟上小学by 王淑芬？ P1 and P2 are with han yu pin yin. P3 to P6 are without. Very funny book too. Available in the library.
三年级花样多, 四年级烦恼多， 五年级意见多, 六年级怪事多
P3 to P6 --- suitable for P3, P4

Another interesting serie is 超级搞怪汪小小 by 陈磊
1。魔力钱罐 2。我和死党 3.挣零花钱 4.Q爸Q妈 5.我爱我班
No han yu pin yin. Available in the library. Suitable for P3, P4

Another one is 皮皮鲁总动员 by 郑渊洁. (Adventure story )

Hi, if I do not remember wrongly, dang dang has classified 马小跳 series for P4 and 笑猫 series for P3.

If the kid has finished this two series, then I would think they should have no problem to reading novels like 卫斯理 series or 陆小风传奇 etc
