Don’t envy and don’t compare. All kids are different and they have different strengths and weaknesses. Potty training is more a result of caregivers’ patience. Not so much the kids. You just need to be diligent to bring him to the toilet, clean up and pick shit. Even a year old kid can be toilet trained. The only difference is the younger they are, they longer they take to train. My son only took 2 weeks to be toilet trained but it happened only after he turned 3 yrs old. You need to constantly and patiently go thru with it.

6 months is a lot of difference at this age. Those kids 6 mths younger than my gal can’t even talk properly! So don’t compare. Not even within the same age group. That’s why pp can tell the difference between those born in the beginning of the year and those year end ones. It is a lot of difference.

I bought the brush from the occupation therapist (OT) we were seeing. It looks like a mini plastic brush for washing clothes but the bristles are much softer. There is a special way of using it, taught by the OT. I stuck with it for over two years because it worked for my child (nursery until end of K2). Of course he would still have bad days, but the frequency was improving.

Btw, I am not sure what KK programmes are like. But OT should assess the child, get feedback from parents and customise a "sensory diet" for the child. The diet, depending on the issues, may include brushing, joint compression, crawling, swinging etc. And diet means everyday must consume. it is indeed a lot of work for the caretakers.

I am not working, so I tried many things even music therapy and brain gym. Sometimes they didn’t work, not because they are bad, just not suitable. But if I didn’t try I won’t know.

Yes 人比人气死人. Just do our best and make peace.

                  Hi Lavina

Could u tell me about your experience with brain gym and music therapy? Did they help, if yes, in which aspect? Did you learn brain gym from a book or u attended a course? I read the book b4, but found it difficult to do some of the exercises cos they involved specific body parts (eg sternum) which I dunno the exact location. Thanks!

Yah Helplessmum, dun compare your boy with my boy. My boy is 6mths older, so sure hv differences. Instead u should compare your boy’s past and present. If he is better than say 6mths ago, then that is an achievement. I know is easier said than done because I do sometimes fall into the trap myself.

Is good that your boy likes playdoh and do moulding, I think from what u describe, he’s fine motor seems ok. My boy used to hate touching playdoh and he us only willing to touch it recently.

Lavina, thanks. I think I will try brushing in my boy. Just do it whenever I can. Btw u said that music therapy has bad side effects. Do u know what is it?

We did music therapy for 2 months only, despite paying a lot to buy the high quality headphone. I think we tried 3 different CDs. The first one was indifferent, no effect. The second one made my child more irritable, got headache and generally bad, can't remember exactly what happened. OT said may get worse before getting better but it didn't. DS refused to listen to 3rd CD. I think with music therapy, is kinda trial and error to get the correct CD, which I was reluctant to. Could be my OT not good enough or me not patient enough.

When my child was in K1, he attended an enrichment centre which specialised in brain gym. Sorry I cannot remember the name. The kids go there once a week to do brain gym exercise and play IQ activities. It was supposed to be fun but the class size was around 40, too large for DS, so we stopped after a while. Then I attended a week-long course conducted by that centre for adults. It was quite good but very \"deep\". After that we would always do the basic brain gym before studying at home. Then slowly we become lazy and then stopped. Which reminds me I should go and dig out my notes and start again.

                      HTH 🙂

Hi lavina, thanks for your feedback. I’m still considering whether to do music therapy for my girl. Don’t want to spend hundreds of $ and end up no outcome.
