      Huilink:
Thank you phtthp! It looks like we will stay put and apply to CHIJ OQLP!

It's safer to stay with OQLP since your younger child is a girl.
No point taking risk to leave a 'safer bet' to go under Phase 2C in Nanyang.

From the 2012 P1 Registration Exercise onwards,

when balloting is necessary in a specific phase, Singapore citizens will be given priority over Singapore permanent residents.

        Nanyang

        for phase 2C:-
balloting for NYPS began - less than 1 km.

        2007 to 2011
        outside 1 km, no chance.

        http://www.nyps.moe.edu.sg/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=31&Itemid=32

        Raffles Girls

        for phase 2C :-
balloting for RGPS began - less than 1 km.

        2010, 2011
        outside 1 km, no chance.

        Methodist Girls

        for phase 2B :-
MGS strictly accept only Methodist church members.
Not from other Protestant denomination eg:
Baptists, Presbyterian, Anglican, Lutheran, Brethren, Trinity, Pentecostal, Charismatic, Free Evangelica churches, Jewish churches, Reformed churches, etc.

        2010 to 2012 P1 intake :-
balloting for MGS began - less than 1 km.
        outside 1 km, no chance.

however, not sure within 1km who got into MGS - how many are PR ?

MGS is an excellent school !

        - got spiritual guidance on character values.

        - got affliation to an excellent Secondary school.

        - got fantastic PSLE track record, beating even some GEP schools in Quality passes.

          RGPS

          Jan 2014 to Dec 2015:-
school occupy temporary occupany for 2 years at 53 Mount Sinai (Holland).

          Jan 2016:-
school return back to Hillcrest (Bukit Timah) permanently, kickstart single session.

heard from sources that 2014 P1 intake onwards for RGPS ... to reduce by 1 class.
          for phase 2B applicants:-
Potential future parent volunteers who are (Singapore citizens & staying greater than 2km) -

clocking 60 hours of PV is tedious / time consuming.
if reduce to 8 classes, it is painful / sad to see those staying > 2 km not given the chance to ballot (just in case) or got very few remaining seats left, esp. after chipping in 60 PV hours, looking forward to clock up hour by hour tediously.
Thus, before you even submit the PV application form, kindly do yourself a favor.
Kindly clarify / confirm this fact with either the school's Vice Principal / Principal, or Head of PV. Also ask discreetly, \"if i stay > 2km, what is my chance like for PV ?\"

as of today 2012, based on 9 classes (270 pupils) :-

              Pei Hwa Presbyterian

              last year: July 2011
\"A spokesman for Pei Hwa said that there were a total of 70 children vying for 44 spots at Phase 2B, including those living within 2km of the school, who did Not need to ballot.\"
26 kids were out. This is quite a big number, almost can form one class of 30 students !

Going forward, Singapore Citizens staying more than 2 km can still apply for PV.
However going forward, Pei Hwa Principal going to control the # of PV selected stringently this time round.
The last heard was: a small number of PV.

Those residing > 2 km may contact school, inquire how many PV the school intend to accept this time.

              26 July 2011

              \"Parent Volunteers work 40 hours for nothing\"
              http://www.sgwayoflife.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7541

Many parents trying to register their kids for primary school under Phase 2B ended up disappointed.

THE rain poured, and for the parents of 30 children who left Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School empty-handed yesterday, it couldn't have summed up their feelings better.

The results of Phase 2B of this year's Primary 1 registration exercise had just been announced, and their children did not get a place in the school in Bukit Timah.

A total of 44 people were balloting for 14 places.

One parent volunteer was trying her best to put on a brave front as she got into her car.

The 35-year-old mother, who asked not to be named, said she had spent over 40 hours volunteering at the school so as to register her child under Phase 2B.

Under the Ministry of Education's (MOE) scheme, parents can raise their child's chances of getting into the primary school of their choice if they join the school as a parent volunteer at least a year before their child's registration.

They must also devote a minimum of 40 hours volunteering at the school.

They will then be able to register under Phase 2B, which is also for children whose parent is a grassroots leader or is endorsed by an affiliated church or clan.

\"We did all these school events,\" she recalled sadly. \"We helped out at Sports Day. We helped out at NAPFA (the physical fitness test).

\"I even took leave so I could attend those events held on weekdays.\"

She is now on the school's waiting list. In the meantime, she is considering neighbourhood schools.

Despite her disappointment, she accepted that the process was \"fair and square\".

\"I guess we've been mentally prepared from the start that this might happen,\" she said.

A spokesman for Pei Hwa said that there were a total of 70 children vying for 44 spots at Phase 2B, including those living within 2km of the school, who did not need to ballot.

                      Hi

I am staying within 1km to NYPS and RGPS and I will register (30 July - 1 Aug)
my girl (Spore Citizen) under phase 2C this year for 2013 intake. Shall I go for NYPS or RGPS?
Oso, shall I register my girl on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd day of phase 2C? Will the school let you know the number of applicants under phase 2C (staying within 1km)?

                      Thank you

                      labourday

If you only have girls, your chance in RGPS will be higher than NYPS. Nevertheless, have a backup plan.

If you are bent on these two schools, just go ahead and register on the first day. I think there will be more places left in RGPS than NYPS at the end of Day 3. So, your decision (if you choose to go for RGPS) will not change.

Strategy will be different if you have a preference for NYPS, though.
