Asia spending billions on tutors: study

wah, so siong. Tuition just to pass?? Could it be that your son's school is one of those that set very hard papers, harder than the actual pSLE?
-
Iβve heard of maths teacher huddling together for half an hour to figure out how to solve sums set by another competing school. Seems to me that that is pretty crazy. How can we expect the kids to do that? I am sure the actual PSLE paper will have only a couple of such sums, while the papers set by these schools may have β¦ maybe 30 percent of these brain cell killing questions?

That boy is good in math and science...looks like the tutor did give him a foundation from P4. Yeah, son's school is one of those who set damn hard ones...intention is to make the kids WAKE UP.janet_lee88:

How I wish I have enough time to go out and hear the tasty hearsay. It was from the horse's mouth - one of the teachers who huddled with the rest to solve the questions. I did not ask which school the question was from, but the teacher was from a SAP school and shall remain unnamed.

Janet, I asked about the drop from p4 to P5, the teacher said it is very common because P4 paper will be easier for subject banding, and P5 paper is the wake up call. But the drop should not be from 80 band to borderline. (She is not from PH.) -
I donβt understand why there must be such wake up call type of tests. Does it mean that the kids were having an easy academic life before P4 and then suddenly in P5 the adults feel that the kids are at the appropriate age to handle more rigorous academic demands and stress?
-
Dd teachers mentioned that it is due to the fact that at P5, they adopt the psle format (18 problem sum vs 6 qns at p4), but she assured that by SA2, the child would be used to it & hence marks shd climb back up.
So, thatβs why parents kena βwake upβ & do something. -
