      Just curious... what school are tier 1, tier 2, tier 3... where am I able to check this information?

      Check inside kiasu parents' heads! :rotflmao:
      They made it up.

      But got banding for sec schools lah.
      check MOE.

      hm.... may be by T-score cut-off 😉

      Tier 1 --> >= 257
      Tier 2 --> >= 250 <=257
      Tier 3 --> >= 242 <=249

        Yes... HCI ask DSA applicant to pay $50 and submit supporting documents, only when they are shortlisted... I think very good process.. save time and $$ 😂
        I meant - TOP schools i.e. Tier 1, about 2-3 schools in number Not Tier 2-3 schools[/quote]

        okie... noted!

          wrt NYHS case. I think there is a difference between DSA vs affiliations scheme. DSA is by outstanding result(with supporting leadership or subject talent profile) or sport talent selection while affiliations scheme is purely by PSLE T-score at a lower cut-off. So if a mainstream NYPS has no specialities for DSA she can still get in via a lower PSLE cut-off thru affiliation scheme. DSA is an independent process for talent selection so why should there be affiliation consideration? It is the same in all schools.

          So, basically, if one is not applying under GEP/Leadership/sports CCA/ Music CCA, may not be a good idea to apply under Academic ? Then why does NYGH website state that students can apply under Academic ? Seems misleading if chances are very slim.

            yes, a friend's son got into the school via a particular sport. for the past 3 years or more, he has been to every single pracitce (well nearly), every competition (100%)..he is not allowed to give it up.

            For us, contemplating DSA for my P5 and P4. But the most important consideration for me is that they must have passion for what they are going to DSA for. Our targetted area is symphonic band which they have been in since P1/P2.

            They have so much passion for band now that I actually hope they can continue this passion in secondary and probably even JC (just realised got DSA for sec school too). So choosing a school with decent results + a good band is our key objective. Was telling their conductor that he has set the standard so high that if their sec school band is no good, they would feel worse off.

            Hopefully we can continue to work steadily towards this target. :xedfingers:

              I hear people saying ... not allowed to give it up... if go by DSA sport.... and I have been asking those people whether dd/ds feel like give it up?.... and any particular reason?......bcos thinking my ds to try DSA-sport :scratchhead:

              even if you get in via dsa-(be it sports or others), you still have to have decent grades.

              my friend's son has been training since young (even to the extend of travelling to malaysia almost every sat to train), so he is used to it. good thing is his parents are very supportive and give him lots of space to relax and not demand A for all the subjects.

                Academic is the baseline so ensure you can cope with IP. Then there are so so many applicants and only 200+ vacancies, so how? So what makes the diff among the applicants will be their GAT, DSA subject test and the interview, and the other things like ICAS/Maths Oylimpaid/ Sch rep/ leadership(eg prefect head lah)....
