      Hi All

As I know, NUSH also produce students in the field of Law, Eng Literature, Geography and etc. The school also provide strong curriculum in Eng. Maybe weak in Humanity subjects as the school combine all in one. They emphasis in Math and Science subjects, so the credits the students hv to meet are also heavier than language or humanity subjects, the equipment used in the laboratory is very modern, half of the science subjects lesson is hands-on experiment. They do a lot of projects just like other famous IP school. However, I think some of the projects are more difficult and challenging than the other top schools. Students are with strong interest in math and science subjects are strongly encouraged to join this school.

One point is very important that students in NUSH do not need to sit for O and A level, they just pursue NUSH Diploma. They can use it to apply U. As I know they hv to keep their CAP at least over 4.0 in order to get Distinction in their Diploma. But it is not very easy if the student study in leisure pace or very weak in math as math got 6 credits among the other subjects.

If u read Lim Jeck's blog, his mother state his son's results there. He is weak in Chin and Eng, so end of the year results will be pulled down to lower CAP. If u say NUSH emphasis in math and sci, I dun agree. Actually, every subject is equally important to CAP. There is no any difference when compare with the other top IP schools.

As I know, there are still some students cannot study well. One case is the girl is weak in some subjects so that she cannot get the satisfied CAP and maybe just get Diploma with pass or merit. She cannot get into local U and only study overseas. Luckily, her family can afford the fee, otherwise, polytechnic or local private U maybe the ways she can go.

And there are also a few students withdraw in the mid way of the 6-year journey since the start of the school.

So, parents hv to consider carefully if yr child really like the learning style - students hv to be independent. (It is glad that teachers are very helpful, they are always there to offer help.)

Anyway, no matter which school yr child go to, they hv to keep in mind that their study attitude is very important. The Principal tells the students and parents in one primary school that if they are offered a place in this school, no worry or fear should hv. However, if they put computer games in first priority, study second, they are not suitable in his school.

Hope the above can help. πŸ™‚

Thank you so much! I feel better now.
Another of my concern, I noticed that some NUS High students went for Chinese tuition. Will they need tuition for other subjects too? Can the students seek help from teachers if they r unsure?

Actually, the hours and no of lessons of language subjects in NUSH is more or less same with the other school. It depends on if u want to learn, how much effort u want to put and what results u want to get.

Around the school, all speak in Eng. If the students dun want to pull down the CAP, of course they hv to study also well in Chin. Tuition is one of the ways they go. Maybe it can help.

The school receives $35 million endowment fund to nurture students who are gifted in math and science areas. The Tay Eng Soon Fund was donated by the Temasek Education Foundation.

The principal said it would use the fund to launch four new awards and scholarships - the Tay Eng Soon Gold Medal, the NUS High School Study Award, the NUS High School Tay Eng Soon Award, and the NUS High School Scholarship.

β€˜It is a form of acknowledgement that we are giving to our students, which we hope will inspire them to make a difference to society,’ Dr Hang said.

Of course, students shd hv outstanding results in order to get the scholarships. Everywhere u can get this rule. It is fair.

One point I hv mentioned, teachers in NUSH are very helpful and always ready to help. They also provided counselling to students. They will spot those students with problems in studying and bad habits such as playing computer games or "special talent" but with "special character" in the very early stage. Some students may not like teachers to help or refuse to listen. No way at all.

No compulsory meeting with teachers at the end of the Semester means good news, that's what DS1 said.

Yes, the teachers there are most helpful, DS1 never fails to approach them when he is unsure of anything.
