Im a new mother still working on maths /words flash cards. My 8mth old boy likes to see math dot card then word dot card... not sure because it seems more fun to see patterns of dots then words ...
This week suppose to start equation maths for my boy. Will see how's the response like.As for chinese charaters, it should work like the English flashcards. 3 times a day for 5 sets of words cards each session ( 15 mins interval ).So total of 15 cards per day.
Glenn doman methods do not encourage words with picture to be flashed together. Suppose to be flash the pictures alone will do ( this will be bits of intelligent flash cards ).If words and pictures to be flash at same time, it will confuse the child ..something like that.

But in future if you want to do it together ( pictures + words), u can try in different context , like reading together , see signboards etc .This will allows child to expose more .

so initially for pictures do you just flash pictures and tell your child the name of the picture or you just concentrate on flash words and then tell your child how to pronounce the words ?

if you flash the pictures and tell your child name of picture, do you say both Eng and followed by chinese or just one language at a time - the other language another separate session ?

for chinese, do you also include hanyu pinyin or just the chinese characters?

No worries ! Im also at learning stage Just some sharing base on my experience and also do some read up.
Ok, basically , it is very simple . When starting with 1st session with the baby, you just need to say in chinese \" zhe shi che zi \" for example ( English is \"this is car\" and flash the card at the same time. You can use this \" zhe shi\" for the 1st day session. So for 2nd day, you just flash the card and say the object directly like \" qi qiu \" . No need to put anymore \"zhe shi\" infront. Hope you know what I mean ..

Normally, I would do one langauge at a time .But I guess, even if you do something diff from doman methods, I feel it won't be do any great harm. Just be joyous at all times.If baby and yourself are enjoying the moment, I feel there's nothing wrong with it. So far I had not try hanyu pin ying yet,cos my baby is still small... I will let other mummies to reply this.Enjoy the teaching process ya !

if DIY, what’s your recommendation on where to get cards 11’‘x11’’ or 8’‘x11’'? and are there ready dots available so that we buy and just paste on the cards?
costs ?

No problem ! Sorry for late reply as sometimes I don't login ..Actually I DIY my english cards . But I don't follow the doman's recommended card size. I use the card size that is half of A4 size... Not sure that is call B5 or A5..Cos I am trying to save up paper cost hee hee. For English cards, I write on my own using big bold red color marker.
It take me about 2 hrs initially starting to prepare the cards by writing.
Bear in mind , you shld always prepare lots of flash cards before hand in order to last you longer time as Doman emphazie on more time teaching rather than doing the cards. If not wrong Doman recommend to start with 200 cards first.
For my Maths card, actually I want to DIY initally, but due to time constraint as my baby requires more attention, I buy ready make cards in the end from flashcard supply .This is their website:http://www.flashcardsfactory.com/ . I think the price are quite reasonable compare to others. The set that I bought is half of A4 size. But If I am correct, flashcards factory they help customer to customize the size that they want, they got dot cards, animal cards, all kinds . You can drop them an email to ask
Another method on making maths dot cards is you can go to popular bookstore to buy those round red color sticks come in a pack .And then you DIY them. Then for blank paper supplier , I heard from people over forums that this hiap moh do supplier customize blank cards and they have free delivery if you buy $250 abv if not wrong , their website http://www.hiapmoh.com/ . Most pple says hiap moh 's prices are the cheapest among all , so you need to call up and check.
I hope my information are sufficient for ya

As for how much times I spend on doing flashcards, it depends. Cos once you familiar and consistent on the size of your writing ( try to be neat also), it will be very fast. After like say 200 cards, then after that, I will do like say 50 cards , teaches and then continue after that once my cards fininsh. I think basically depends on you also.
Sometimes, I stop for a few days and then I put in some reading session for my boy in order not to bore him la .... and I use my own pace kekekeke.
I think words /maths cards are quite straight forward and easy. But I think there's more challenge on how to teach baby bits of intelligents cards as I really find it hard to do.Need to find photos , pictures... so far I had not seriously started yet.But maybe I won't do glenn doman methods but to find books on encyclopedia and then to show him ...

I need some advise. I am new at this.

DS1 wasn't into flashcards so I never pursued it with him. However, my 10 month old is enjoying this activity.

I am not following any method ie GD or Sichida. Rather, I have started with the alphabet ones first.

My question is whether is there any structured way to use flashcards to teach? Can I flash multiple topics/subjects one after the other at a point of time or just stick to one?

Appreciate some guidance

You can get blank A5 size 300gsm flashcards from Shichida tensai shop ( open to public) at their HDB hub site - level 19. Cost $11 for 100 pieces.


I didn’t know where to buy blank flashcards before I enrolled My son in Shichida 2 months ago - so I made them with drawing Block paper -from popular and cut them into smaller strips. I didn’t let my child touch it so it’s still ok but slightly flimisy.Tried gluing 2 strips together but too time consuming.

Thinking of colour printing some. I saw some shop’s websites that offer printing onto 300gsm paper but I think it is expensive.

I just purchased a pre-loved Glenn Doman English kit and reading the How to teach your baby to read book. I'm a little confused on the instruction on what to do after day 3.

1)In the book it says: 'Your child first 3 sets have already been seen for a week so you may now begin to take out an old word in each set and put in a new one each day. Five days from now, retire an old word from each of the two sets you have just added in.' (What does it mean by the two sets? Is it refering to the 4th word set and 5th word set?)

2) Then further down the page it says' When this system is working smoothly, gradually add a fourth set of words then a fifth set of words to your daily program.' (This is where I don't understand, so when should I be adding these 2 new word sets? Cos the above point says that five days from now, but this point says when the system is working smoothly.)

For parents who are using GD flashcards, could you help to clarify?

It will be helpful if you can share on what to do on the 3rd day onwards.

Hi,

I think it means you should start to have 5 sets of 5 cards each to show each day by the end of the first week. You need to remove a word out of each set and put a new one in.

It’s not easy to follow the instructions. I started when my kid was 18mths. It’s next to impossible to do 5 sets a day as kids at this age lose interest easily.

My advise - don’t worry about following the instructions to the dot. Show as many words as you can while your child shows interest. Keep adding 1 to 5 new words a day. Don’t bother testing the kid.
Go on to the 2 word sentences and so on as written in the book but don’t need to stick to the timeline stated.

What’s more important is that the child has been shown the words consistently.
I also bought alphabet flashcards and taught the phonics sounds separately. I don’t think teaching kids to recognise some words is enough to get them to read by themselves but it is a good start.
