Honestly speaking, I don’t see much Catholic values being impressed upon on the students. Spoke to the sister managing the little chapel that it is MOE’s guideline to make all public school as secular as possible to cater all different students. In fact, on the first day I was surprised to find a large number of non Catholic students.

As for the academic emphasis, if there’s what u want, then this school is a perfect fit, but I hope u do not back track n start to be worried n concerned when yr kid comes back with less than desired results as I have observed from the forum.

The saving grace is that the school has very strict discipline master n mistress whom I have spoken to pertaining to some disciplinary matters of my son’s classmate.

      Cheers!

                Hi,

Just wanted to point out that the school is very dedicated to the development of the boys. Their academic results are impressive and has been steadily improving over the years. Better than some of the other mission boys schools, I have heard! p.s. my child graduated last year.

                  Hi Christine
Which sec sch is your boy in? I am still thinking if I should change school this year. DS does very well in all areas but I hope he can go to a sch where he can better his mother tongue.

                    Hi there,

My boy will most likely be going to be in P2 next year in this school. May I know how do they get to select the CCA? And how's the school environment. Do they have gardening? I'm also from Punggol. 🙂

Hi. For CCA, the boys will receive a form or a booklet (can't remember which one) stating the days/description of the CCAs. They can write their 1st, 2nd etc choice of CCAs. The boys usually get into the first choice unless it is a specialised CCA like Robotics Club where the boys will need to take a 'test' to see if they have the basic interest/knowledge in Robotics. It is important for the shortlisting because the boys may have a chance to take part in National Robotics Competition.

To be honest, I think St Gabriel's Primary is pretty good and DS does well in all areas. There are some responsible teachers and I like that they take discipline seriously. My DS was pushed to the ground by a bully who demanded free lunches from my DS many times and DH had a talk with the Discipline Mistress who settled the matter the very next day. It is discouraged to approach the kids directly because kids are kids, they do make mistakes and going to them may scare them.

                      Hope that helps.

This is also why I am at a dilemma if my DS should change school. I value the chinese language and hope he can go a to school that focuses in that area. This is something I will definitely need to consider properly after the SA2.
