St James Church Kindergarten
-
Anybody read the newspapers today that St. James Church kindergarten will be closing down in 2014? The one at Dempsey road due to lease expiring?
Quite a shocking news to me although it may not be new to existing parents with kids in the kindy since I read that there was a petition last year for parents to appeal to the authorities to let them stay.
What are your plans? -
why close down ?

why close down ?
The lease of their current operating premises will be due and the sch doubt they can afford to pay the rental as it will be an open bidding. Though they can look for other site, but it will be too ex, considering the number of classes they have.. -

Just to add on, the School has been actively on the look out for new premises, but it would be impossible to get a reasonable place without raising the fees from what they have experienced in actual bidding exercises.. One recent bidding exercise they went to, another private (profit) school submitted a bid 3 times of what SJCK could afford.. So how to compete ?
While there are already parents coming together to help in appealing to the relevant authorities, all of them were not interested to really assist..
So we are now faced with the prospect of 500 kids, 97% of whom are Singaporeans/citizens, many from low-middle income families, being school less end of 2014.. -
believe its state land & govt taking back the land for re-development…
my gal just started N2 this term… she would be able to graduate fr SJCK in 2014…
reported in the papers that the Principal mentioned abt laying off manpower next year… wonder if teaching standards would be compromised… -

Don't think so, i believe what she meant was as they have to reduce the classes gradually, naturally they have to let the staff go too... Otherwise they will be losing $$ everyday.. -

Yup, the last batch of students will then be attending quite an empty school?

Hi All… Many will feel let down and disappointed… Rest assured Pastor Richard, Ms Jacky and the school are doing a lot to preserve the school…
Let us channel our attention and energy to joining the movement in appealing to the authorities to let the school continue, be it at the present premise or another location…
Stay tuned for more updates… Meanwhile, hope all of us will continue to pray for the school and support the school and its staff…
