Today's ST has a parent writing in to ask for abolishing of Phase 2A: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Sto ... 23421.html

Priority for citizens not effective enough...

In life, we cannot please everyone. The ones who don't get it will say it is not fair and that teh system is broken. The ones who have it say that it is working and that it is the right way.

Surely there are other schools that are within 1km besides Ai Tong right? I also wonder if she would be crying foul over the system if the school within 3 mins' walk is a neighbourhood school and not Ai Tong.

PS: I have not alumni nor ex-student status and am SC. I believe the system is funtioning and am not complaining. Yes, I may not get my child into the school of my choice because I have no ties but I accept that and make alternative plans. In the end, my child's future is in his hands and mine. I am resposible for helping to educating him, not the school or the world.

agree with you…if system works in her favour, it will be flawless?? What abt those who did not do PV, do they cry foul and demand Phrase 2B to be scrapped.

Sadly, Sin Ming has only 1 primary schools, and it is super duper popular school. The next nearest one is Catholic High, which is equally zero chance for her.

I think when the mother decided to do PV or join the clan (since she is in Phrase 2B), she shd know that there is no guarantee that her child will secure a place. And she shd have mentally prepared to try other nearby schools (beyond 1 km, but still within reasonable traveling distance) such as Ang Mo Kio Primary Sch, Teck Ghee Primary and Townsville Primary school. She prob has to ask her son to take schoolbus…and I am sure traveling time can be manageable for her if she considers these school.

Maybe to console her, I know my neighbour’s child got into ATS as transferred student in P4 (she moved from East to Bishan). She said her child’s result is so-so. Perhaps she secured her place after some of the P3 kids from ATS opted for GEP and transferred out.

If u know the area well, there is no neighborhood sch within 1km or 3 mins walk, depending on which part of the estate you stay in.

I do know that area very well. Spent a year in that school.

What i meant is that parent also need to be realistic. With such hot schools in that neighbourhood, of course it will be highly contested. What was she expecting? Must be mentally prepared for back -up and opt for transfer if the opportunity arrives. Not much choice right?

My intial question stands - if Ai Tong is not that school but a regular school that is 3 mins walk, would she be writing in to ask for the earlier phases to be scrapped?

okay .... but your statement \"Surely there are other schools that are within 1km besides Ai Tong right?\" contradicts what you said about knowing that area very well. 🤷

if it is a regular school, probably won't have such problem like AT.

anyway i hv no stake in AT or P1 2013. :siam: but i can guess their frustration at not being able to get a school that is just nearby. she probably wanted to boost her chance by going for P2B. Had there been no P2A or P2B, nearby residents may just willingly accept their application's outcome based on demand / supply conditions.

I support Phase 1, Phase 2A and 2B but would like the non-SCs to be out of those phases until after all the Singaporeans get their choices at Phase 2C.

This will be really Singaporeans-first. But I know many pple who already have older kids in there will cry foul. Maybe they can start by removing non-SCs from Phase 2A first. Non-SC alumni will not cry as much I suppose.

My heart was torn to shreds last time when my son’s K2 classmate (who was from China) got a place in Ai Tong while we had to travel 4km every day to a further school despite living within 1km of Ai Tong.

                      I support this analogy.

Will she want to scrap p2a now …?..

Go compliant to his or her parents lar

Do something now … For ur children’s future and stop complaining !

Same as during election … Vote wisely … For ur children future Singapore …

I support phase 1 phase 2a phase 2b and phase 2c … And non SC will only during phase 2Cs
